STEN8
Gentlemen, As my stock of Future/Pledge slowly diminishes and my researching efforts remain futile, I thought I ask the ARC gang (surely as knowledgeable a collection of scale modelers existing today!) - has anyone formulated an adequate substitute for this amazing product? I have never found anything even close...I have used acrylic clear flat finishes with decent results, but for canopy glass and so much else nothing else seems to do. Is it still an "accept no substitutes" kind of deal? Thanks for any help, Harry Lutz, Florida
joeltc
If you're looking for something for dipping canopies then theres a product called AK Gauzy. Personally I prefer polishing to dipping, but theres that product. And If you're looking for an acrylic gloss coat theres Alclad Aquagloss. This Is actually a great product that gives very predictable results. Though probably the best gloss coat I've ever used is Mr Hobby GX110 thinned with Mr Levelling thinner. They also do GX114 which is an amazing flat clear. Both when thinned with MLT give the smoothest and toughest finish you can imagine.
STEN8
Sounds interesting and I will take your advice. Thank you, sir. Harry Lutz, Florida
Peacemaker
I think the hype of future has died off 20 years down the track. AK's Gauzy is perfect for canopy dipping( they do a version for dipping with a wide mouth container), you just need to control any bubbles and dust falling while drying. I will normally polish, but if im lazy I will use Gauzy. Gauzy can also be purchased as a a clear coat. I also like vallejo poly clears. But ultimately my favourite is GX112/113 (i prefer the uv cut) like joel.
Geoff M
Not a replacement but an extender. I cut Future 50/50 with 91% isopropyl alcohol. It dries faster and has less drips and runs.
STEN8
Geoff, Now that's damn handy to know. Damn handy. Thanks. Harry Lutz, Florida
RexKramer707
Quickshine. Youtube has a boatload of videos.
Alternative 4
If I don't need to sand out a seam line, I don't dip. Most modern canopies are crystal clear or look better without the thickness which future gives the part
breadneck
Ok, get me up to speed here folks. Has Johnsons discontinued this product?
STEN8
Yes, as far as I know., Future/Pledge is discontinued. I haven't seen it online or in stores in quite awhile, although it seems there are some swell alternatives! Harry Lutz,FL

nachjager
You can also use Alclad's Aqua Gloss for canopy dipping, it has worked for me so far.

cf18hornet
I second the Quick Shine option. While I find it a tad runnier than Future I always end up with the same results as if I was using Future. Edited August 26 by cf18hornet
