kg4kpg
So, I don’t build cars or even know much about the kits, but I have a friend who owns a sweet 72 and I’d like to build a model for his desk. Does anyone make one, and also know a source for the correct wheels? Thanks, Chris Edited September 25 by kg4kpg
Tank
Not sure about any body changes but this is the closest year I could find. https://andyshhq.com/products/1-24-amt-1970-1-2-camaro-z28

Doing some reading, looks like 70-73 is the second generation with little to no changes. I believe this kit will work, I just need to source the right wheels and rear spoiler. I appreciate the info. habu2
1970 Camaros had "low back" front bucket seats, '71-up had "high back" seats. Everything else is pretty much the same. The box art for the AMT kit shows the front "split" bumper, I don't know if it includes the wider single piece front bumper. I see the AMT Camaro kits at Hobby Lobby all the time, watch for their 40% off sales on boxed kits.
Scott Smith
Biggest two differences are the rear spoilers and if it had the RS/Split front bumper nose or stock nose. There was a short and a tall wrap around rear spoiler. My old ‘73 Z-28. I put the RS front end on it. looking at your friends car he has the wrap around spoiler and the kit posted has the short spoiler. kg4kpg
Thanks. Just got a better picture.
oortiz10
If I remember correctly, the old AMT kit has the RS split bumper front end like the photo above, but it also has the Z-28 badges on the fender and grill. Your buddy's Camaro looks like it has the RS badge on the fender. Besides those small details, it looks like the AMT kit is a good starting point for your project. My first car was a '70 split bumper RS. If you go forward with your project, I'd be very interested in its progress. Good luck! -O
Scott Smith
Okay, where is this car at? I think I’ve seen your friends car up here on Lake Wateree visiting on either Memorial Day or Labor Day weekend. It was actually parked out in the yard down the street from me. If it wasn’t his, it was its doppelgänger.

If it wasn’t his, it was its doppelgänger. He lives down on Wadmalaw Island below Charleston. I believe he still shows it now and then, so it’s possible. Usually it’s inside his shop behind his house.
jrfalen
Did you find a kit yet? If you have a hobby lobby near you, they have the AMT Z/28 kit in stock. The Baldwin Motion version of the kit has the correct Cragar wheels and rear spoiler, but then it would have the wrong hood. I’m sure someone has some spares they could offer though. https://www.scalemates.com/kits/amt-854-70-1-2-baldwin-motion-camaro--265368
kg4kpg
Yep, got this one on the way. I’ll figure out what I will still need when it gets here.
