SERNAK
Hello everyone, Does anyone know if low-visibility decals have been produced in 1/72 for the VF-102, and specifically for the F-14A? Many thanks, Bill
Joerg
Hey Bill, this release of the Fine Molds kit has the markings. It’s currently available. Link HTH
SERNAK
Thanks Joe. But what I'm looking for is the rhomboid-shape symbol with the AB in it. If by any chance you have the Osprey Superbase 2 book, go to page 86. You'll see a close-up photo of the vertical stabilizer that shows it. I think its in FS-35237. GW8345
I think you are looking for the old Micro (Super) Scale sheet number 72-350. https://www.modelingmadness.com/scott/decals/super/ss72350.htm That's the only sheet I know of that has the low-viz Diamond/AB markings. I believe there is a set available on eBay. https://www.ebay.com/itm/166877435464 hth Edited September 10, 2024 by GW8345
SERNAK
Ah, thanks man for the help, but looking at the specific sheet, it only gives Low Viz markings for VF-111. After writing the request above, I thought I'd look at all the companies that over the last 30 years have produced kits for the F-14 in 1/72, and starting with Fujimi (luckily), I found that at one time there was a Tomcat that the company produced, with decals (Hi and Low) for VF-102 explicitly. Unfortunately, apart from the fact that it is no longer available, I saw that their markings, at least as far as the vertical stabiliser is concerned, are not in the shade I am looking for (35237). But they could act as masks for me to paint with this particular FS afterwards. If you happen to have this particular book, take a look at the page I mention to see what I mean. By the way, another interesting detail; in the background of the photo you will also see an A-4E. This must be from some Marines squadron, but there doesn't seem to be any distinguishable insignia to tell which squadron it is from. Nevertheless, I can see that it still has its 20mm Colt cannons. Again, thank you for your help. Bill

Then you’ll need to find an old edition of the Fujimi kit No. 28013. It has the decals you want.Link
habu2
Take a look at Hasegawa K38 (04038) https://www.scalemates.com/products/img/1/1/3/132113-78-instructions.pdf
SERNAK
Thanks guys, @Joerg: That's a difficult kit to find. I tried eBay and Scalemates; no luck. @habu2: For now that's the only alternative that I can use (if the dimensions are the same with the one from the photo) to try and recreate the larger markings using FS-35237. Thanks again, guys.
