Simone's stuff is amazing (but pricey).  I've got his cockpit correction set, updated pylons and fuel tanks and the MUM-TX rotor hub antenna.   Waiting on his fixes for the TADS housing.   My build was too far along to utilize his fix for the screwed up lower fuselage (still can't believe Takom missed that feature).

I've got the D Block II I want to do as a memorial build for a friend (Apache pilot) who was KIA in Afghanistan, as well as a Guardian in the stash to build. What all is wrong with the Takom kits?

Generally, complex instructions, poor decals, poor anti collision beacons on the engine sides, and cockpit errors.  For the cockpit, (except for the D Block II kit, which has a special issue), they didn’t include the helmet sensors, a/c vents, and for the early D the old CPG sight.  For the D Block II kit, they added a correct cockpit, but it’s a cockpit for an E model, not a D model.  Use its cockpit with the E guardian you have.  For the E kit, it’s missing the belly armor, which even Hasegawa got in the 1/48 kits.

I was aware of the instructions and the decals. I ordered decals from Caracal, and I've seen a few build reviews about taking the instructions with a grain of salt and dry fit, dry fit, dry fit. I sent Simone a PM on Facebook, and it looks like I'll be ordering a few sets from him at some point soon. I've got several sets from Reskit and Black Ops to replace the pylons and weapons. We'll just have to go from there and see. I like the idea of 35th over 48th for this memorial build. I'm going to be building it and donating it to either Selah High School where he graduated, or Central Washington University where Aaron attended ROTC and hopefully they will display it for everyone to see. Thanks for your help.

EDIT: This is actually an article about my friend, and his return from Afghanistan. Hard to believe it's been over 10 years ago now.
