M.F.Lunder
Hi giuys, The latest purchase: Fab scale's Terman PIDS+ pylon set just came in. In the bag there is a pair of PIDS+ pylons and the Ukrainian air force insigina. So I can't resist the tempation to buid a UAF F-16AM with them. After considering updating Hasegawa's F-16 and backdating Tamiya's, I decided to use the Revell kit. I read about the Revell kit, which comes with parts of almost every variant, so building a F-16AM from it should take minium work I think? So I bought a second hand Revell F-16C from internet. The box is in bad shape but luckily none of the parts are damaged. Reviewing the parts I found that there is not short A-tail end among them. After going through all the revell F-16 kits from Scalemates, I think that part was added from the next issue-F-16B on, but not in this box. I will have to sort this out or I will have to cut the end from the C tail and glue it to the A tail. Bummer! The clear parts are tined, which is not to my liking, as it means the others parts, such as the taxing light, are also tinted, and I think it's wrong. I also bought a 3D printed ASCII seat, exhause and wheels for better details. They look more refined than the kit parts. ...as well as Dream model PE set. The set is designed for Hasegawa kit, but I think I can use some of it. Fimally I printed the instruction of a MLU kit, so I will not use the wrong parts during the build. Now the parts are in a soap bath, the build will start when they are cleaned and dried. Thanks for watching, Chris Edited January 2 by M.F.Lunder
Thadeus
Nice. Revell kit is pretty nice. Indeed sometimes Revell didn't include some parts. My first boxing had both small and large elevators and I was quite surprised no other boxings had them. I don't know if this boxing includes runner with MLU instrument panel. I'm pulling up a chair. M.F.Lunder
Hi Thadeus, yes the MLU instrument panel is there, I had made sure of it before the purchase. I did a light wash and dried fit it to the tub, the instrument arrangement is right but it's crying for proper decals for the dials. Let me think about it. The 3D print seat fits the tub well, only I found this is the type with fixed pitot, while it should be the folded type on the UAF aircraft. Fixing it was easy - I cheated. I just cut off the part and glued it to the side. Next I free the Terma pylon from the trees and spayed a thin layer of putty, they are looking good. I also dried fit the intake trunk. There is some flash, but my bigger worry is whether there will be a step when gluing the front wjheel well and the intake lip, I will go through my other viper kits see if I have any inspiration to make this kit looking better. Thanks for watching Chris Edited January 2 by M.F.Lunder
Mercury
The same item is on it's way to me whenever Canada Post back to work...Check your references, the aircraft delivered have "big tails"; no need for the smaller block 10 tail, if that's what you're looking for. The aircraft from Denmark are MLUs, so aside from stiffening plates and shorter dorsal fin, they pretty much look like Block 52s. I'm just using a Hasegawa Blk 50 kit with parts from the spares box for mine...
habu2
Revel released several boxings of these molds, several were specifically MLU jets (both As and Bs). Looking on stalemates it looks like all the A & B kits include the extended parabrake tail. I don’t know if the Ukraine jets had parabrake tails or not. I have several of these kits but they are in storage so I can’t check for alternate parts. https://www.scalemates.com/kits/revell-04612-lockheed-f-16-mlu--103154

In that process, they keep the A tails, which are shorter and narrower than the later C's. I went through instructions of other Revell MLUs and the lateest 1/48 Kenetic kits (including the Ukrainian one), they are all using the smaller A tails. I think I am going to keep that. I only found that after I bought the kit. I am not going to bought another revell kit just for a small part, instead I bought a Hasegawa F-16A (way cheaper) and us the A tail, which has the same dimension as the revell one. Thanks, Chris PS. I don't know what happened I can't eidt the post with pictuers, so to be short, the following are the small updates: cable added to the IP coaming, IFF panel and gun vent added: DM PE for internal structure: I also bought the Platz PE for the idetails: Edited January 2 by M.F.Lunder
