Magic Fatory A4-M (VMA-131)

Recommended Posts

Not silly at all.  Thanks for bringing it up.  Should help other folks working on this kit to get it spot on 🙂  Not sure I'm gonna remove it at this stage... can't be bothered.  Too much work put into this kit already 🙂

Happy Holiday!

All the best to you - all all my friends on ARC!

Hey guys, need some help.  The instructions, box art and reference art contained in the kit call for these two probe like units to be glued to the front of the aircraft, on the nose just in front of the windscreen...  see below both circled in RED:

BUT, I don't see these on any of the reference photos I've been able to find...  should i leave these off or put them on?

The photo below does not have them... as well as any of the other reference photos i have...

Need some guidance here...

Thanks.

Hi Greg,

For the jet you are modeling, leave off part U4. This particular air data probe was moved to the tail on some jets, including 160024.

On the other hand, part U10, I believe should be present on your jet, even if it’s not discernible in all pictures.

Thanks Rich... but I just can't find a photo where I can see anything like U10 on this particular aircraft, unless it's overexaggerated and not to scale in the kit...

Either way, thanks dude.  Appreciate everyone's time to help out 🙂

Well ladies and gents... progress is being made ... all-be-it slowly.  Real life has a nasty habit of getting they way of fun 😉

Anyhow, gloss applied, decals applied, panel lines done and matt coated.    Not exactly how i wanted it to turn out but there are just so many details that when you want to fill in the panel lines and rivets it just darkens up the whole thing.  Still, it's very eye catching.  BTW, the Cartograph printed decals in this kit are superb 🙂

Additionally started work on the base ... as this jet will be taking off, in flight with wheels partially up... something I have never tried before but wanted to see if I could create something like this...

So here's the base...

Lets just see how it all turns out 😉  Wish me luck!

She looks good. Too bad they went way overboard with the panel fastener detail, jeez.

Just a suggestion but, I would pose the nose of the aircraft towards the "piano keys" and not the runway numbers for take-off.

You know, in the end I think it is going to look like a plane by golly. And that is what counts. Giving your struggles early on, I am glad you stuck with it and have gotten the results you have. She looks good, so congratulations on that. Looking forward to seeing you bring it across the finish line.

It's funny, but the kit looks a lot better in person then in the photos I took... too many shadows.  It' quite eye catching and everyone who has seen it, really REALLY likes it... just an insane amount of details (unrealistic to be sure) but an eye opener never-the-less...  Would I do it again? ... no, I'd go with the Hasegawa kit for sure, but I'm happy with it.  Won't win any awards but people will definitely gravitate to it when displayed with my other kits.  Interesting livery with a dynamic presentation will make for a nice display piece.

Another fun fact about her, all the "artwork", Viper, Clam, Eagle, the two badges on each intake and, the drop tank artwork were all hand painted / airbrushed by my good friend Gary Campbell.

Yeah, Gary's done KC-135 nose art ( "Jersey Girl", "Easy Money" ) for the Jersey Guard 135's back in the day, he's done artwork for them they they hung in their Ops building. He did all this for free with the deal being he get a hop on a 135 refueling mission but, they never delivered. He also did artwork on one of our A-10's, 82-0659, back in 2001 called "Philadelphia Freedom" as well as artwork on some of the A-10 boarding ladder doors.
