Any kits of the Boeing AH-6i helicopter?

Recommended Posts

Thailand is getting new AH-6i helicopters from Boeing, and I would like to build a model of one. Does any company make a model of the AH-6i Little Bird  helicopter in any scale (1/72, 1/48, 1/32, 1/35)?

Looking at the photo I found online, there are differences between available kits and the real thing. I f there are not any FULL kits of the AH-6i helicopter, are there any conversion sets that can be used to build an AH-6i?

I have posted a link instead of the actual picture.

Larry, I’ve been looking for you on and off for a couple days. Near as I can tell there isn’t one. Closest I could get was the Stealth boxing from Academy and adding the CMK MD-500E conversion but you’d still be short the nose fairing with FLIR, 6 blade head and duel bladed tail rotor.

Mind you this is all in 1/48. I’ll keep poking around in the other scales you mentioned.

Thanks for looking. I guess since that version is so new, it'll take awhile for either the kit manufacturers or the aftermarket companies to make that variant.

Larry, I found this conversion for the Dragon kit in 1/35 scale.

Little Bird MH-6M Conversion Kit for all Dragon Kits - 1/35 – Black Ops Models

It gives you the 6 bladed hub with four bladed tail rotor but still short the FLIR nose fairing.

Thanks, but at $60.20 + International shipping from Australia, it still doesn't have the very prominent & important nose fairing.

I wouldn't even want to try to scratch build that feature.

Hopefully, someone will eventually come out with either an AH-6i kit or conversion.

I will wait for that to happen, before I actually buy the base AH-6 kit.

Regards,

Larry

Hi Larry,

Out of the box, no. The closest I would think kit wise is to possibly graft the nose of the Dragon 1/35 MD 530G (MMS) Gunship (kit 3526) to the fuselage of the  AH- the Kitty Hawk or Zimi Models 1/35 AH-6M/MH-6M kit.  Or just work with the Dragon MD 530G kit and find you a new 6 bladed main rotor & 4 bladed tail rotor and scratch build all the add ons to the nose and else where on the air frame. Or we could wish that Kitty Hawk or Zimi Models produces one.

From what I can tell the AH-6I is an ungraded MD 530F airframe with 6 bladed rotors & 4 bladed tail rotor. I am not sure if Boeing builds them totally or they get an airframe from MD and then go from there with their modifications & upgrades.

Hi Steve,

Thanks for the response/suggestion. Unfortunately, none of the kits you mentioned have anything remotely like the nose fairing on the AH-6i.

I think I will wait to see if anybody comes out with an accurate kit of the AH-6i in the future. It's not like I don't have enough kits in my stash to work on in the interim.

Well you can wait or you could if nothing is released, scratch build the nose.  One thing about Helicopters in the modeling world, they do get overlooked alot unless

they get alot of attention in the news or on the big screen.
