Matt Walker
Looking at my next project, F-16C Block 42C 88-0456. Block 4x jets have a WAR hud, right? Well, not this one!! Every photo I've found of it from various stages of its life, show the WAC HUD!
habu2
456 has been a “test” jet all its life, at Elgin and Edwards. It was the test bed for Block 50/52 development, so not surprised it deviated from a “stock” 42 configuration.
Matt Walker
Yes, it has had an interesting life!
Matt Walker
Here's a question... Would it have the new Center Display Unit? Edited October 29, 2024 by Matt Walker

Matt Walker
Hmm. Thanks John. Anyone have any Air Force contacts??
BillS
In two of those photos the HUD has a protective cover but yes, blk 42s were equipped WAR HUDS but nothing is cast in concrete in the AF.

habu2
Looks like it also has the spin chute mounting reinforcement brackets on the upper aft fuselage.
Matt Walker
Yes, it does.
habu2
Does anyone offer those brackets in the aftermarket?

zerosystem
If that's the same bird that showed up to Thunder Over Michigan this year then it's a Franken-viper according to the pilot. It had a number of unique features on it from nose to tail including some new "jamming" antennas and scab plates for the anti spin chute mounts.
