F-14A HUD questions?

Recommended Posts

That is the HUD Camera and it was removable so it was up to the pilot to determine if he wanted it or not. It was attached by two hex-head screws so if a pilot didn't want it it only took about 30 seconds to remove it for.

So, no matter what the block number is, you could have it or not, it was entirely up to the pilot on whether or not he wanted to go flying with it.

Note, the pilot could not remove it, it took a maintainer to remove/install it. I have remove/installed them several times when I was a QAR in VF-103 and VF-143.

Hello!

I'm writing because I can't find any information anywhere.

These are F-14A HUD pictures.

What is the difference between the marked parts?

Which one should I use to make the F-14A-75-GR from 1982?

These are flight sim (DCS) screen grabs of the Heatblur F-14A. In the sim you can remove the gun camera by clicking on it to allow increased viewing area for the approach. IRL, it's pretty much a standard bolt on item and would be there in 1982.

Cheers,

John
