.1/24 th Beaver floatplane

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

I've started on the 24 th scale Beaver Floatplane.

This is a kit rarely seen on forums, due to the fact that it is a unknown kit in Europe. And to modern standarts ,a very 'poor' kit

You might compare this with a vac,but then injection molded.

There is no inner detail at all.And the windows are decals.

But this is a big model. And with some extra work ,this might turn into a nice model.

Because there is no inner detail,I will have to scratchbuild a cockpit.

Nowscratchbuilding is not my best point. So if you have any tips that might help me in buiding a somewhat decent cokpit,I would apreciate it very much.

I did find a truckbuider on HS that will help me with 24 th scale seats. So that's a start.

Some cleaning up to do. The wings are done.

..the side windowshapes are molded. A pitty the frontwindows aren't.

That would have made things a bit easier.

Lateron they will be replaced by thin clear plastic

Well,I'm off to my hobby-room

Hi Erwin,

I've always had a soft spot for the Beaver, and this one being on floats is even more intriguing. Who is the supplier for this? I'd like to try to get one.

Interesting build too.... I'll watch this one.

Cheers

Mike

Quite interesting. How are you going to fabricate the front windshield? Looking forward to seeing this project progress.

Hello,

The simple thing I can think of,is to cut out the shapes on the kit and then make a windshield from thin clear plastic. Plastic used for sweets boxes or something like that

I will have to eat all the sweets first :D

I will make the windows about 2 mm larger and glue them in position from the inside.

The thin plastic should take on the shape easely.

So that's the plan . Hope it works

But,please guys, don't expect a 'master'build here. If it looks like a Beaver in the end. Then I'm happy <_<

Erwin hi

A friend of mine is into Beavers in a big way <_< , and would like to get hold of this model.

As you say it is not widely known of, and at the moment

from here in the UK I cannot find a source for the kit.

Where did you get yours from?

It certainly looks a fun project, and having read of the kit but never seen it I'm impressed with its quality.

Hi Erwin,

I purchased the same kit several years ago. I did some modifying and added a little more detail with the flap actuators, pitot tube and water rudders. I didn't feel like cutting out the windows due to the quality of the kit. Kind of like the old adage of making a silk purse out of a sow's ear. Actually for Beaver lovers there's not a lot out there to work with. Here's a couple of pictures of what I did with mine.

Hello,

Thanks for showing you Beaver. Looks great <_<

Did you use gloss paint or semi gloss ?

Seeing yours got me thinking about those windows . Not sure what I will do now

I will see and wait what kind of seats I can get hold of and then decide to make some sort of cockpit.

Hi Erwin,

I used Testors gloss white and layed out my own graphics and sprayed with an airbrush. One thing I can say for sure, a 1/24 model sure takes alot of paint. I see from the pictures of your kit that it's white. Mine came yellow. There was quite a bit of filling to be done on all the sink marks. I tried to be very careful so that I didn't take off much of the raised detail. There is a good Yahoo group named DHC-2 Beaver. They have tons of pictures and alot of reference material. Good Luck

Hi all,

Now we can post pics again,I will bring you update.

The scratchbuildind thing didn't go as planned :P

So I decided to paint the windows black from the inside.

At least it looks better than using the decals as windows.

I then started on the floats.

Instead of painting the 'anti-slip' patches,I used very fine sandingpaper.

This is not only less work than masking all the patches and painting them. But you olso get 'real' anti-slip

Hi guys,

Remember this one ?

Well,in order to complete it,I need some Canadian national markings.

It doesn't have to be decals.Stickers where I can cut them out will olso be good.

I need flags for the fuselagesides and white oakleaves to go on the finsides.

But it must be the red type flag, not the camouflage black or gray,in order to match the red fin and wingtips.

Or the aokleave in a circle.

Any Canadians that can help ?
