KINETIC TF/F-104 WITH BLACK DOG BIG SET, QUINTA STUDIO COCKPIT SET 1/48

Recommended Posts

Howdy all,

It is going a few weeks before I get the Halberd TF-51 so I am going to start this project while I wait. The civilian F-86A should be completed this week as the decals are coming to me. I think this will be a very nice project with all the open bays. Dai

Hello all,

I will not be able to use all the detail parts because the TF version does not have the cannon nor avionics due to the second seat taking space of the avionics. Therefore I could only use the engine, vertical tail bay, part of the top fuse fuselage compartment and nose antenna. Dai

Hello all,

For F-104 experts, do you know if the TF 104 has this on the right side? Dai

The dual seat bay is smaller and much different.  There are images on page 13 of the Verlinden Lock-On book on the ‘104

Hello all,

This conversion set backdates the 2 seater version to the B and D models (two seater versions of the single seat B and D). I wonder if that will allow me to use the avionic or the cannon resin sets? Dai

There is no such thing as a single seat B or D, they’re both two seat models.  Neither version has the gun as the second seat occupied the space where the gun went.

Ah yes, my memory failed me. Thanks Dai

Howdy all,

Upon closer examination, the "2 in 1" boxing does not mean you get 2 separate complete kits like Eduard's Dual Combo. What you get are 2 different fuselages (single and 2 seater) and you can only complete ONE airframe. So the left over fuselage is rather a waste. If you know what version you are going to build, then just buy the normal version rather than spending for an extra fuselage that you will not need. Dai

Nice project. Are You going for the wraparound scheme? Dark Zippers look awesome.

I do not know at this time. There are many nice two seater schemes out there. Dai

Hello all,

Good stuff have arrived.  I simply could not know what version/s the set is designed for. I emailed BD but did not get an answer. I would assume for the common F-104G? Dai

Hello all,

The more I look into this project the more I realized there are so many variants of the plane. Upward firing seats, downward firing, versions of A,B,C,D,G,J,DJ,S,CF,RF,JF,ASA,M,TF. I will have to make sure the decal/scheme selected is correct for the variant. I though wing configurations of the F-86 is bad enough… Dai

Downward firing seats were only used on very early A models I believe. Anything used by anyone other than the USAF would have upwards ejecting seats. The F-104G and CF-104 used by MOST countries other than Germany and Italy would initially have had the Lockheed C-2 seat with just the lower ejection handles, then SOME nations changed later to the MB Q7 seat. The Norwegian CF-104D pictured on the book cover got the Q7 seats as a mod after retirement.

The bay below the tail is access to the hydraulic systems. right behind it will be the drag chute compartment.

Hello,

Likely I will do the CF-104 two seater. Upon review of the Kinetic sprues, the CF variants use the same sprues as with the TF-104G. That is not very accurate correct? Dai

The Kinetic kit sprues contain both seats, both wheels, and both MLG doors, so it doesn’t matter.  The “wrong” parts for the version you’re building are simply unused.

That is very good to hear that Kinetic does provide correct CF version parts. Dai
