Ol' Scrapiron
This project was one I knew I'd have to do after seeing the newly restored Helldiver arrive at Oshkosh last year. I took as many reference photos as I could before they opened up panels for display and am glad I did. After a couple days to review it with fresh (non-tired) eyes, I will be sending to the print shop to have a giclee made -- digital painting is 10x20 inches at 500ppi in 16-bit RGB. Here are a few cropped areas that show the level of detail a little better as it really has to be seen up close to be appreciated. - - - - - - - The crazy thing is, that its pushing two years since I've had a painting ready for the print shop, and I was concerned that I had lost the mojo to take on these projects. Last year I focused on family needs and didn't work on anything artwise. At the beginning of March inspiration suddenly hit and I crafted back-to-back paintings of Northwest race cars in a three-week span and was confident I was ready to do more complex projects again. So glad to have the muse in my corner again -- it has been a while! Edited March 27, 2025 by Ol' Scrapiron
