Seawolves UH-1B 1/35 Trumpeter

Recommended Posts

I have been tinkering away with the new Trumpeter 1/35 UH-1B. Not 100% decided on livery yet but at this stage Vietnam Navy HA(L)-3 bird.

This is a really great kit in terms of detail and accuracy especially the interior. There are numerous issues/frustrations however with injection marks in really silly places but that is all a part of modelling sometimes. I am enjoying it so far.

Going to be mostly out of box build but have I have had a Quinta IP panel/seat belts detail set for the Academy C model in my possession for a while and thought I'd modify it for this kit.

I've been using SMS paints for the interior - Dark Gull Grey, the early Olive Drab FS33070, the later shade OD, as well as SMS brown, black and white washes. I find these paints amazing, and my old Badger 150 airbrush still going strong.

Scratch built map lights.

Springs for the back of the pilot seats were made by spiralling small gauge wire around a suitable size dill bit.

Still some final touching up and weathering to do of the pilots seats and they will be in place.

Thanks for all the encouragement, it means a lot Gents.

Not much time to devote to building but have managed to make a few small steps on the interior. Seats and belts are done and in, just a few more minor touches and weathering and onto the remainder of the interior.

Slow progress but I have been working on the rotor head and components. Really accurate kit details, only did some minor surgery to the smaller links/dampers to make them not stick out so much. The whole system is currently just basically 'snapped' together which is an impressive touch for the kit, especially since I disassembled and reassembled a few times whilst painting. No glue used yet but will need it on a couple of spots.

As far as colours - I am trying to match the early B-model factory colours with the gold/grey and silver contrasts. I am yet to weather completely but coming along.

Time for an update, not much of one, but progress nevertheless!

The cabin is sealed up, lots of putty and sanding as I had quite the time getting this bad boy together. I could not seem to work out the obstruction that stopped the two fuselage halves from sealing nicely so had a couple of bigger gaps that needed some work to fill and sand, they just did not want to marry together without effort.

'Emergency Exit' decals were kindly made up for me by member Karl h. They went on beautifully so again thank you mate! I used just strip styrene to make the yellow lines.

Tamiya clear green mixed with some MrColor leveller for the greenhouse windows.

SMS washes (black and brown for weathering) and drybrushing.

Various scratch built items - map lights made with sprue and coiled wire (I use a pin vise drill and coil wire around a suitable size drill bit).

ICS cords were made by dipping the ends in super glue to give it the affect of a 'connector'.

Thanks for checking this out!
