Hey, due to the stupid person making all the spam under a bunch of different names, I am just going to call anyone joining for the next couple days a spammer.

Sorry if you are a real modeller. But join again in a couple days after the spammer gets bored. Seriously dude, I have erased near 5 or 600 spams this morning, get a life.

When I saw how widespread those spam posts were earlier (in far more sub-forums and individual threads than recent ones), and that they were under a number of different usernames, I knew someone was going to have their work cut out getting rid of them all...

....once again, thanks for your efforts, they are much appreciated - it's a shame that you don't have the ability to enable mod's 'privileges' so some of us could help.

Shawn,

Yes, thank you!  In a few months, I may have more time on my hands and am willing to help as an admin.

Kind regards,

Dutch

We can't get any new admins or better spam controls until the site owner decides he wants to actually log back in and have something to do with the place.

I've come to the conclusion that he simply no longer cares.

I know that post was in 2023, but it says a lot.

Too bad we can't make that post a sticky until he comes back...

I'm not jumping to conclusions, simply calling it as I see it. In the past few years, he has made absolutely no effort to do anything related to ARC. Look, I 100% sympathize with his situation, as I have hit rock bottom in the past as well. However, there is no way he hasn't had ANY time to at least hand over the controls to any one of the moderators. The perception, and my belief, is that he has simply chosen not to. In my personal opinion, it shows a complete and utter lack of respect to those that are fighting like hell to keep this ship afloat.

Why should he, he just sits back and collects the income, while we keep the Titanic afloat

His lack of involvement in "his website" should tell everyone what kind of person he truly is. Right now all anyone is doing is rearranging the deck chairs to the faint sound of the band playing.

I'm just wondering who's been paying the server fees and other expenses it takes to keep this site going.

I would guess Steve is. I am sure not paying anything unless someone got a hold of my credit card without letting me know.

I saw pages and pages of porn spam yesterday. I did not know whom to contact. Is Steve Bamford still around this forum?

I have mixed feeling about the website owner.  On one hand I am so grateful that he created this site.  It is full of people with a wealth of knowledge and terrific modelling skills.  I can also sympathize with his situation over the last few years, losing jobs and amassing debt and perhaps this was way down the priority list.  But it has been at least 4 years with minimal involvement and 2 years since his last post on this site.  If he is still struggling, it would seem sensible to hand this off to someone or some organization that can take over until he is able and willing to take charge of it.  💲.02

I'm curious, does anyone know how much it costs to run & maintain this site?  Domain fees, hosting fees, forum software license?

I offered him a months worth of fees during COVID and he turned me down.

I would guess site fees are on autopsy.

I love this site, and am grateful for it.

I wish he had added an admin or two early on, but I get it; this is his baby and he didn't want anyone messing with it.

In this regard, he MUST still be paying. No one is going to let a big site run for free. I just wish a few people who know more about computers then me could be added to the moderator list.

Just report it. Mind you one notice is usually enough, or those of us left find (most of ) the spam on our own.

The site has the information on the bottom of the page. I been thinking about trying to start a whole new site just for aircraft modeling. The site could pay for itself but you would need to include advertisement. Anyway, the to start and run a similar site would be somewhat costly if you are willing to fork out the cash for it.

Here's my recommendation;

Let this site sink and start a new one.

If the owner doesn't give to F's about this site why spend the time and energy trying to keep it afloat, build a better boat and let this one sink.

Also, this site wasn't build just by one person, IIRC it was started by three modeler's, the current owner is just the last one left of the original group.

I have a forum here and have been making a small contribution every month for 10+ years. I doubt it pays the server fees but should definitely cover some of the expenses. I am also very disappointed that he has neglected the site for a long time.

There is 15+ years worth of modeling  and aircraft-related knowledge accumulated here; most of which is probably unique and can not be replicated easily.  I am all for a new forum (if it is going to abide by the "no politics" rule that Steve admirably upheld for years), but it would be shame to let all this go to waste.
