T-37 auxiliary air inlet (?) question

Recommended Posts

I'm guessing that there are several modelers here that flew or maintained the T-37? I just noticed an auxiliary air inlet (I think) on the top side of the nacelle. It's a narrow strip of about a foot long, that rotates open. You can see it happening here:

Anyone know more?

The flight manual says they're spoilers that provide stall warning when the flaps are extended >25% and airspeed is <72 knots. I'll try to post a pic from it later today.

That engine noise in the video is painful to listen to, even on computer speakers! 😄

Ben, thanks, very interesting! I've never ever seen a stall warning device like that.

Yeah, the engine sound is piercing.. Image a whole training air base with lots of these 🙂

Happy to help! I had never noticed the spoilers before, so I'm glad you posted your question. The A-37 has them, too. Here are the screen shots of the manual.

I was at Vance AFB, OK (Enid, OK) as a weather instructor and yes, loud and high-pitched whine of numerous T-37s and T-38s made for an uncomfortable trip to the flightline or even out and abut on base at times...
