? on the F-15EX sensors

Recommended Posts

OK, I know that the nodes under neath the canopy are empty on US models, what about the tail booms under the vertical tail fins? What are in those and I am assuming that the electronic warfare capabilities are all internal except for the fairings on the vertical fins. I know the export QA aircraft have sensors in all those fairings. Strange why the US does not utilize those same sensors. Any thoughts?

Thanks

Jeff

That is part of the EPAWSS ECM system, parts of which is also being retrofitted to the regular F-15E fleet.

Apparently this system gives the F-15 a very good ECM system to counter threats. I can only trust the add.... 😉

As Niels said, the tail booms are part of EPAWSS. The fairings under the canopy are part of the Common Missile Warning System. Why the USAF chose not to utilize this system, I'm not sure. The fairings were kept on the EX because of the flight software. It was cheaper to keep them than to reprogram everything without them. I'm also not sure what it would take to retrofit the system at a later time, should the USAF decide to.
