G.W.H F-16I Sufa first of a family

Recommended Posts

New line of kits from G.W.H in 48th scale is the F-16 Viper family. First to come this year is the F-16I Sufa version.

Look forward to it.

First glimpse of the new kit was few months ago with showing a 3D printed "test" of the kit. The latest news are views of the production tools for the fuselage.

Best regards

Gabor

On second look, it's a real.pity they didn't do "any" cockpit sill detailing. 😳

I dont know how representative is a 3D printed, lets say "preview" of what one is planning to produce. We will have to see the final plastic parts.

Back in the days when designing the G.W.H Su-27/Su-35 kits (more than 10 years ago) it was a subject of lots of correspondence: to do or not to do details of the cockpit which are not detailed simply due to prevailing fashion amongst kit makers. Cockpit sills and lots of details which are visible on it when the canopy is open usually is neglected or provided later in the form of etching or other aftermarket extras. I believe that once it is there on the real aircraft then it should be incorporated into the kit to make life easier for modellers and of course to make the final product fare more authentic.

Same goes for fine details further down inside the cockpit like around the rudder pedals or the side wall upholstery . . .

For some companies it is an extra source of income to make any such details ONLY as part of etchings or 3D printings. By so doing they divide the modellers to the average (who will do or have to do with plastic parts with out extra details) and the Pro’s (who will buy all the aftermarkets).

I prefer to give this choice to the modeller, provide as much detail as you know (on plastic parts) and let the modeller decide how “deep” is he willing to go into details when painting his kit.

I am stoked about this upcoming release, and look very much forward to it. The F-16I is one of the coolest F-16 versions around, even more so in RSiAF colors.

Any more photos of the test shots?

Before going into a "What if" and "Wish list" lets wait and see what it will be like!

It should be out this year so there is not a long to wait to hold in hands the actual plastic and to know what the real price is.

The two parts next to the fuselage are strange shapes and could look for some like two different versions of the intake. In fact they are the main gear doors on Frame C.

The engine and intake parts are on separate sprues (F, H & I) so in future it will be easily possible to add a new sprue for the other intake diameter and associated parts.

Looks like Kinetic are also expanding their F-16 range by including Israeli variants. I chatted with a Kinetic rep online and they said they are all based on the new tool. The will have a new dorsal spine to fit the new tool. Israeli weapons will be recycled from somewhere else.

@Hoosfoos In case you're not aware, this thread is about the GWH kit. There is a paralell thread on the upcoming Israeli F-16's to be released by Kinetic.
But agree this looks promissing, 2 F-16I's in new molds - Xmas is comming early this year for sure!

A highly detailed 48th F16 will go well but to be honest im more excited about the 32nd Hellcat from GWH.
There are plenty like me with zero interest in modern Israeli as opposed to Scooters and F4’s from Yom Kippur etc.

Now if the F16 was a Singaporean or other instead of Israeli well thats a different kettle of fish id be all over three or four.

I really don't care about Israeli variants as much as I don't care about Russian (post Soviet) ones, but it's rational to expect more F-16 variants from GWH.

Since it's not clear what's happening with the Minibase F-16A, I am excited about GWH making F-16s as they do make pretty detailed kits.

Didn't Kinetic once say they weren't going to do a Sufa?
