JNordgren42
Tamiya announced a newly tooled F-14D Tomcat in 1/72 scale at the Shizuoka Hobby Show today. The kit is expected to be available in December and they say they applied lessons learned with their amazing 1/48 Tomcat. https://www.tamiyausa.com/blog/new-172-f-14d-tomcat-model-kit/

GeneK
Thanks J -- great news. I sure hope "reasonable" shipping to the US returns soon. My HLJ Private Warehouse just keeps piling up. Gene K

Even with a tariff based price hike, it should hopefully be less expensive than individual shipping from Japan is currently. Fingers crossed.

Jetdog
Boy do I feel old- on the display and box it says "1/72 Scale Warbird Collection"! The Tomcat a Warbird? Yikes! LOL I wish they would include all parts needed in that one box to make all variants of the Tomcat. Sure the decals in this boxing will be for a -D, but how long will we have to wait for a -A or B version from Tamiya using this tooling?

I'd love to use this for the second bird in my Final Countdown display and compare it to the Academy that I used for the first one. The Academy is a wonderful kit, but the Tamiya A6M-2b Zero I used for the first adversary is just exquisite.
jbryan911
The sprues look modular, all the D specific parts look like the could be easily swapped out. It didn't take them all that long to release all three versions of the Penguin, so fingers crossed.

And it also looks like an A model should be super easy given the engineering choices they made. I'll definitely pick up an A if/when they release it, but I may have to get this one as well, that VX-9 scheme is really calling out to me.
