dai phan
Greetings, The wings are joined and start smoothing out joined parts. Monogram wings mated to the MB fuselage is the easiest kit bashing job compared to Tamiya and MB. The front section of the Monogram wings blends well with the front section of the MB making this bashing the way to go. Next will be fabrication of the circular wheel wells. dai phan
The speed brake comes from Tamiya's. I had to carefully cut out the rectangles where the arms of the brake will go. Dai Edited December 13, 2025 by dai phan
dai phan
Hello everyone, The Tamiya's speed brake bay fits well the the fuselage of the MB so I incorporate it. Greatly improves the look of it. Dai Edited December 14, 2025 by dai phan

Dai Also note that the oil cooler door and opening need to be deleted on the bottom of the fuselage just forward of the wing. On the AD-5, that was moved to both side of the lower forward fuselage. Tailspin Turtle
The AD-5 scab-on "armor" was slightly different, for one thing to accommodate the new location of the oil cooler outlet air.
dai phan
Greetings, The catapult mechanisms were removed by the guidance of Tailspin Turtle. Correction of the under belly forward section will be too complex in my unexperienced hands so I will leave as is. Dai Edited December 14, 2025 by dai phan
dai phan
Hello all, I discover an error on the kit. This area on the kit is represented as a vent with opening at the end. On real planes it is just a fairing. How shall I go about correct this if at all? Dai Edited December 17, 2025 by dai phan

Dai The kit designer obviously forgot to put the rest of the fairing on the side of the fuselage. The correction depends on whether the airplane had the bolt-on armor. It probably did in this instance.

Maybe adding some putty and flair it down? I know I will not be able to do this modification that looks right. I will leave alone as the MB fuse is not that accurate anyway. Cubs2jets
The polygonal "shape" is the oil cooler air exit door. It is on both sides of the fuselage. Surprisingly, this is the only A-1E / G picture I have of it open. Some pictures even show the aft edge recessed in the opening. Is the area in question a panel covering the air inlet ducting for the oil cooler(s)? C2j

dai phan
I then transfer the cut outs from the Monogram fuselage and apply to the MB fuse. I make sure they are in relatively correct position with the cowling flaps. Dai Edited December 19, 2025 by dai phan
