geedubelyer
Yeah, yeah; I'll post some pictures. I have a Nikon D90 camera and the files are HUGE, so I have to spend some time editing them down to a lower resolution. I also have dial-up. Bummer. I bought the aircraftphoto.ru CD and it's been a great help for pictures. For the blue weathering on the engine NMF sections have you used a clear blue/red like Tamiya or Gunze, or the clear Alcad colors? I've used the Alclad clear colors with pretty good luck, but haven't tried to airbrush a thin line. What do you think? Thanks again. Chris Hi Chris....get the thread started. One pic a day should n't take too long and then we can all have a look-see. It's up to you to feed the Flanker-fest I'll get on it this weekend in between re-building my deck and tending to a pregnant wife. Tut, tut...any excuse  That's the trouble with a hobby. Other things take priority. Wait 'till I've finished the bathroom, I'm not gonna stop building until the Flanker's done :D As for the bare metal, I used oil paint over the metalliser to give the various hues. It had the added benefit of dulling down the sheen somewhat which appears more natural to me. As for the thin blue lines, they should be hand painted with a thin brush. The real items are pretty uneven close up. I made my Flanker last year using Zactoman's excellent canopy - but before the intakes and nose were available - so mine are scratch-built. .................................... and it is FINISHED And a nice job you made of it Ken. I'll keep an eye out for the mag. Should make an interesting article. <_<
su27
Hello everyone, This is my first post althought I have followed the "galleries" for years. I followed this thread for the first time 1-1/2 wks ago amd caught up. Of course I could not help but to buy the whole Zacto kit. (All 3) I just received them last night and wow it is super high quality. I am a huge Su27 fan going back to 1995 when I downloaded a demo of Su27 (the flight sim) after that I started building models of the flanker and have built 4 and working on my 1/32 starting last night. (as well as a su35 conversion in 1/48 thats going well, but I am breaking to start the 1/32) I bought my 1/32 two years ago and hoped some goodies would show up (like the Zactomodel kits) Also... can we buy Military in Scale anywhere in the USA? Like Borders or B&N? I have appreciated Kens work since 95 and would like to get a copy of the magazines. Ken D. - Great work! I so wish I could see a flanker in real life and see russia. All we get in the states are f16s and f18 etc. Occasionally a prvatley owned Mig from the 50s. Thanks to Chris for going above and beyond on his products. Regards, Scott Edited August 22, 2006 by su27
su27
Hi again... Any thoughts on whether the last (last or latest) Linden Hill 1/32 decal is worth the extra money? I was not to keen on the polar express one. And the extra detail sheet is it redundant to what I've got already (provided with the Trumpeter kit) Regards, Scott Edited August 22, 2006 by su27
RedStar
Hi again...Any thoughts on whether the last (last or latest) Linden Hill 1/32 decal is worth the extra money? I was not to keen on the polar express one. And the extra detail sheet is it redundant to what I've got already (provided with the Trumpeter kit) Regards, Scott The Linden Hill decals are pretty much a necessity - while the Trumpeter decals are relatively complete, they are (1) inaccurate and (2) crappy decals - By comparison, the LH decals are very well researched, and are printed by Microscale, so you're basically getting the best, easiest to use decals in the world. Strange that you don't like the Polar schemes, as I found all of them to be very interesting - the second release in 1/32 is much of the same, but with a couple of odd schemes for the Uzbek AF. Great stuff on both - highly recommended. Paul
PapaSmurf630
I still like the idea of having one up and one down. Although it may not be totally realistic, I'd prefer to have some of the depth and all that lovely detail at the far end shown. I've noticed that's one thing people love doing when they look at models, looking down the intakes and the after burners...
su27
You are right, i am confusing myself. I DO WANT the 1/32 scale Guardians of the North. I am frustrated that I cannot find them now. Anyone have a clue where to find a set??? swimmer25k
Fellow Flanker Fans, I recently purchased the Trumpeter weapons set to outfit my Flanker with some nifty weapons. I'm hoping to use some of the more interesting and exotic air to ground weapons found in the kit. Does anyone know how the Su-27 can be configured (other than air to air)? Thanks, Chris
swimmer25k
No pictures yet! Dxmmit! Can anyone help? Thanks, Chris Edited September 17, 2006 by swimmer25k
ramcdaniel1
My condolences for purchasing the Trumpeter weapons set. Practically all the missiles and bombs in the set are inaccurate. However, I can help you with the load outs. Hope this helps! Rafael Winter
The Trumpeter set has the same weapons that come with Su-27 an Mig-29 1/32 right? Rafael Winter

swimmer25k
Robert, Thanks for the help with the load-out. I've never been overly concerned with minor accuracy discrepancies. How bad are they? So, based on that, I'm going to stick Kh-31Ps (and their pylons) on stations 9 and 10 just because they look cool and my Flanker is an Su-30/35 wannabee. I call it "airshow static display load-out". (Don't tell anyone!) I bought the weapon set because I wanted to throw on some air-to-ground ordnance and got a good deal on the kit. I'm going to review your drawings and reconsider. Thanks again. Chris
Spaced Marine
Wow. 99 pages. I remember when this thread was new! What a wealth of Flanker information is herein!
RedStar
That's correct Rafael. And, no corrections have been made to them. I'm not sure I'd say that - the R-27s that were in the MiG-29s were much improved over what were included in the Su-27 - and those are the ones included in the weapons set. They're not perfect, but they are an upgrade over what's included in the Su-27. I didn't think the AG stuff was THAT bad.
ramcdaniel1
Ok, guys. I am in the process of scanning and photographing the Trumpeter parts. They will be compared to the best drawings and and photos I have of the armament in question. I'm not just shootin' fire out my butt. They really should have done a better job on the armament with all the available reference on the subject. Please be patient. I'm working on it...

No question they could be better - I was just pointing out a small point about the R-27s and the improvement from the Su-27 to MiG-29 - as for your comparisons - I'm not sure I want to see them :(
Zactoman
Bump I've edited my previous entries and restored most of the pictures I had posted on this thread. I recieved several e-mails about it and saw a thread asking about the missing pictures here recently. If any of you who had pictures posted here could restore them it would be appreciated (Especially your in-progress pictures Ken!) Here are links to some of the Su-27 builds here at ARC. Some were finished and some weren't and need to be re-started. I've seen a few of the threads resurface lately and I'm hoping for more! janman
These all have been great and utterly informative threads and I've been following them very closely. Thanks for gathering all the links in to a one place, Zacto. One lil' mistake though: I think the LST01's link is the same as Rafael's.

Zactoman
It's been over a year since this thread last resurfaced. Time for some new 1/32 Flanker love! Lots of Flanker stuff has happened since then. Trumpeter has released an Su-27UB and 're-tooled' many of the parts for it including nosecone and intakes. Their new parts look amazingly similar to mine  Details >>>here<<<. They are also now including those 're-tooled' parts in the single seat kit as well as a 're-tooled' front windscreen. The two-seater will be needing a new canopy (when I can find the time!). On a happier note, I released prints of the Flanker in several different markings: Details at my website: www.Zactomodels.com
Zactoman
I also did up several "What if" Flanker schemes! There are several more >>>here<<<. There is also an ARC What if group build that just started and will end on June 1st. I am donating a 24" print of the Ukrainian Demo scheme Flanker as one of the prizes. Join in the fun and build a what if model!
Zactoman
Just a few days ago Linden Hill anounced that they were releasing Ukrainian decals!!! Details >>>here<<<. The sheet will include markings for four Su-27s and three Su-27UBs. Among the markings on the sheet are "Blue 56": And "Blue 08" Note that "Blue 08" has a different, early tail stinger... Somebody had to do it... I'll be posting more pics in the coming days!
