Mark Lynam
Guys, To get back into the game, thought I'd post a few of my older progress pics. I've done work on the ordnance, but I haven't taken any pics. I must do that, hopefully soon, when I get a chance to unpack the BONE and get back at it. Brett M
Very impressive work Mark! Your landing gear look great. Did you luck out and have rubber tires in your kit? The mlg bay looks awesome, great job. And your rotary launcher, well, wow! Thanks for sharing! I'm still working on mine, wheels and tires are assembled and painted. Nose gear is painted white, now to add details. Edited March 28, 2010 by Brett M
Mark Lynam
SPARTA, I used Solder for the larger plumbing. It can be difficult to work with though, for multiple complex bends, especially when trying to avoid marking it up with deep bight-marks from pliers, etc.

giles
I came to the scene late. Was surfing this Forum aimlessly... too much time to kill while transiting various airports in the last two weeks. It's all your fault. After seeing the wonderful builds here, I just had to build a Bone! So, I went out and bought a Panda (the only Bone kit in 1/144 scale) today. While it isn't anything like its Monogram or Revell big brothers, the kit looks quite buildable. The biggest attraction for me is this scale is travel friendly because I spend a fair bit of time on the road. I intend to scratch a decent representation of the bomb bays and the landing gear wells. The Panda's bomb bay is very basic to say the least and the gear wells are way too shallow. I wonder whether I could ask for help from the guys building the big birds for the dimensions of their bomb bays and landing gear wells. I only need the exact measure of your kit's (or your corrected scratch built bomb bays and gear wells). It should be quite easy to convert these measurements to 1/144 scale. To scratch the bays and wells may be a different kettle of fish all together, but I am game to give it a shot. TIA Giles PS: another request - a scanned copy of the kit's instructions would be particularly helpful. I am flying blind until the DACO book arrives. Thanks! Brett M
Quick update as I don't have much else to show. I added one of the defensive pods to the tail.

utley
an update: glued the tail onto the upper fuselage, and cut the sweep store deal out for realism.
Brett M
Here's another update, thanks to Rob Byrnes. I'd previously asked if he would be interested in assembling the Eduard PE afterburner cans, to which he agreed to. These are the pictures he sent to me while assembling them. I got them in the mail yesterday and they definitely look sharp. Thanks again for doing those Rob, I appreciate it a LOT!

richter111
Every time I see the exhausts, I can't believe how insane they are. I would go nuts trying to build them. Man you make them look great!
Darth2307
Rob. I just picked up a set of those burner cans. Any tips for me on how you make them look so nice? Do you actually solder them together or do you use CA glue? thanks!
Rob Byrnes
Rob. I just picked up a set of those burner cans. Any tips for me on how you make them look so nice? Do you actually solder them together or do you use CA glue? thanks! Both. I solder the main rings, but use super glue on the small pieces on. I also turned a piece of wood to be the exact diameter of the first (inner) ring to use as a jig to help hold and set things up. Cheers
jatuttle
I built mine a few years back OOB and went with a gear up display(still have the rubber tires in their little bag). Biggest issue was seams where the fuselage sections joined...it was a real pain, but I got through it. Kit decals, overall gunship gray. I recently donated it to the University of Mississippi's AFROTC Detachment 430 for their lounge area. The Colonel made up a nice bracket for it and it hangs on the wall in a vertical climb for all to see. Two of my kids are in the detachment and on their way to commissioning soon, so it's really satisfying to see it there. Pardon my ramble...the BONE is not a kit for the light-hearted or space-challenged, but it's a real blast when it's done. Jeff
Youngtiger1
Man, you guys are making some awesome progress on this thread. I'm loving those exhaust. Also, I want to thank the guys for re-posting some of the older in-progress shots. Thanks a lot Mike
Darth2307
Rob. Thanks for the tips on the burner cans. I hope mine will turn out as nice as the ones you did! Happy Modelling!
Boxster
Did anyone built this with the gear's up? 44 pages, didn't read every single page. Don't think I am up to all the detailings for the gear wells or bomb bay but man, that PE nozzle's gonna be a pain in the behind to put together! Looks fantastic!!! Thanks!
