Bf 109G-10 pics...

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

Finished this one this week and thought I'd throw a few pics on the board for your review. According to references, this a/c had a 75/83/76 scheme applied. There is much confusion between the colors RLM82 and RLM83 I have discovered. Wartime German sources seem to indicate 83 was a lighter green and not Dunkelgrun as it is often refered to. With all the contradictory info out there I ended up going with the lighter Pollyscale RLM 83 which matches the WW2 Luftwaffe Painting Guide color chips well. Whether it's "right" or not I can not say for sure.

The model is Revell's 109G-10 with Loon Models resin wing, prop, spinner, tailwheel, supercharger intake and rudder. The cockpit was replaced with a True Details example. The main canopy is a Falcon replacement with scratch built head armor. Brake lines, oil cooler intake details, and additional cockpit details were also added from scratch.

Hope you like it...color and all!

Sure I like it. Great 109 you have there!

The only thing that makes me wonder is the number 0297 size on the fuselage sides. But I think you have your references.

And there is no much left from the original Revell kit...uh?

CONGRATULATIONS.

Cheers.

Thanks Velez...the numbers on the side are unusual but correct...they are the last four numbers of the Wrk # of the a/c. Not sure why they did this but I have seen it done on several late war machines. Quick identification I suppose. Turns out the color green I chose is a bit light. The a/c apparently had a field mixed non-standard green applied that was a bit darker... Just got this info from another modeler who is knowledgable on the particular a/c. Oh well, that's what I get for believing decal sheet instructions!

Wonderful Job Joe! Yeah, the color looks too light but it is very striking and I really like it. It's WWII Luftwaffe so you really can't be too wrong or too right I guess. Great build and if you had not stated the scale I would have guessed it to be 1/48, which I consider to be a compliment!

Take Care,

Shawn

Thanks guys for the support...Mark, I can't say for sure that they are exactly the correct size but they looked the part to me. Too much work in this bird already to dig into that!

Happy modeling all!

Thanks Andy for the kind words...glad you liked it. The mottling was fairly time consuming as the mix must be very thin to acheive a good look in this scale. Consequently, I have to be very careful to avoid runs as the paint is applied. Its definately the fun part of WW2 Luftwaffe builds though!

:D
