A/B Moisture trap location

Recommended Posts

I have a compressor with a 6 gal storage tank. I've always had the braided hose for my airbrush attached directly to the compressor. Due to some changes in the room downstairs where I paint, the compressor will be further away from my paint area.

SO, I was going to attach either a 15 ft or 6 ft rubber airhose to the compressor, and then add either a moisture trap or a moisture trap/regulator combo to the coupling where the braided airbrush hose attaches to the rubber compressor hose.

1. Does anyone have any thoughts or suggestions about whether the long rubber hose is a problem, or the location of the moisture trap?

2. The compressor has a built in pressure regulator. I own two moisture traps, and the one I like best also has its own regulator. Any issues with TWO regulators.. this one and the one on the compressor?

Inquiring minds want to know!

TIA

Jack

I've done airbrushing in a car repair shop, hooked up to their built in air systems, which is not dissimilar to what you are doing.

In general, you want the moisture trap as close to the AB as you can get it.

If it were me, I'de go with the trap/regulator on the end of the long hose, then a short hose to the AB itself. I'de mount the trap/regulator close to where I intended to paint.

Set the regulator on the compressor a little over the max you would ever want to spray at (say, 30-40 PSI for cleaning/blow out), then use the local regulator to fine tune to your preferred pressure. Otherwise you'll keep having to go all the way over to the compressor to make fine adjustments to your painting pressure. Not fun.

Cheers,

Matt.

Matt & Hatchet: THANKS for the good advice!! According you what you both say, I should be in good shape!

At least being further away from the compressor will be easier on my ears when it decides to replenish the tank!

Cheers!!
