MattCar
This is the last bit I need sorting out. According to the colour call outs in the Revell kit, the forward deck on "Blondie" should be Olive Drab. According to some references I have seen, it should be black. Why is this so confusing Cheers Matt
Quiddy
I've always painted mine black. Every pic I have seen of that part has been black. Wayne Beattie
jrallman
Well, it was this big worldwide conspiracy. First, everyone was going to have standards for their colors, but never follow them in producing the colors, putting the colors on the plane, or maintaining the planes in the field. But then, they thought, gee, people could just take pictures and know what colors we all used, so they confiscated and destroyed almost all the color film to make us think all they had was black and white. A few color rolls survived as contraband though. Its all just the Man bringin us down! I kid, I kid!
agboak
What do you mean, forward deck? If you mean the anti-glare panel in front of the cockpit, on top of the nose and extending to the spinner, then Olive Drab. If you mean the coaming over the instruments inside the windscreen, then matt black.
David Walker
Yes, just to be sure we're talking about the same thing, I'm looking at a color picture of Blondie and the anti-glare panel is olive drab. If you mean the area over the instruments that would be black.
don f
Matt, If you are referring to the cowl over the instrument panel, here's the E&M version of the interior colors for the P-51D: Finish Color Scheme for P-51D Airplanes AN 01-60JE-2 states: Cockpit anti-glare - Dull dark green Instrument panel - Instrument black Pilot's compartment Metal floor areas - No finish coat required Wood floor areas - One coat of Spec. NA 2-1301 non-skid surfacer Pilot's seat - Dull dark green (metal fittings on wooden seats require no finish coat) Sta. 101 to Sta. 184 - Interior green (primer tinted interior green to be used. Exception: Areas not normally visible require no finish coat) All other areas - No finish coat required Station 101 to Station 184 extends from the instrument panel to the back of the canopy. The wood floor was painted with an anti-skid surfacer, purported to be a mix of silica sand and matte black paint. Don P.S. - Paint the cowl deck black or OD if you prefer. Opinions differ over the color. Dull Dark Green was very dark. Here's a discussion of Dull Dark Green http://www.arcforums.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=56949
