Hoops
Some of the Su-30MKI demonstrators: http://spacetrans.tripod.com/gallery-su30mki.html The one that I really want to do is Blue 06, and it would need three different bits of art, the "06" the "Cy" Logo, and the other company logo (don't know its origin) seen in this picture from ARC: http://s96920072.onlinehome.us/AWA1/201-30....R/15_SUlg1.jpg Few more pictures here, but seems to be painfully slow http://www.aviapanorama.narod.ru/su.htm All for now... -Jared

You can get a better view of the logo on Saturn's website at :- http://www.npo-saturn.ru/default/ Just wait until the graphics finish.................... Ken
KursadA
I just finished my first Flanker sheet, with markings for the new camo scheme that appeared on one of 177th IAP's Su-27s. I have a small number in all three scales. Other Flanker sheets will follow, almost all with demo markings. Check out this page for ordering details. Work for the demo Flankers sheet is under way, too. Some logos were completed tonight, I will tackle the rest this weekend, time permitting. Just a preview to pique your interest:

Thanks Ken, I should have known that you'd chime in with the correct information as to the origin of that symbol. Kursad, great looking work so far, looking forward to seeing more flankers in the near future! -Jared

IMHO, the logo consist of the letters A & L - for Arkhip Lyulka, engine designer and 'founder' of the OKB. It is his initials that prefix the Su-27 engine - AL-31F. I had never noticed before.......... Ken

I'd often wondered what it was supposed to represent, but the left side being an "A" had eluded me until you pointed it out. It just happened to be pierced by the "L" and I wasn't picking up on that... Another mystery solved! -Jared
Flankerman
Yeah, just checked at Flanker Survey. Quite similar though! All of you guys thinking of doing the off-white/light grey/dark grey Su-27SKM demonstrator (bort 305) - or the Su-30KI whose airframe it used - just be aware that you need to make some mods to the kit. For the Su-27SKM you need to remove the Infra-Red Search & Track (IRST) ball from in front of the windscreen and move it to the side - not an easy task given the clear windscreen. You also need to add an in-flight refuelling (IFR) probe - either in a recess or deployed - to the port side of the windscreen. Finally add the small ESM 'pimples' onto the leading edge of the slats - about halfway along. For the Su-30KI, the IRST is centrally mounted - but it also has an IFR probe - but only semi-recessed - on the port side. You also need to modify the cockpits to represent the new layout with MFD screens. Oh! - and leave off the RWR aerials from the intake sides.... Happy Flankering............. KursadA
Any progress on the decals?Just keeping my eyes out... -Jared It's progressing slowly. My decals for the 177th IAP Su-27 did not sell well, so now I am not sure if I should go through the several hours of work necessary to finish these. First I have to release a USAF subject which already has a bunch of preorders.

EF
If you don't advertised them you won't sell them Kursad. You should start a new thread. Now I know what my next project will look like. Thanks.
KursadA
If you don't advertised them you won't sell them Kursad. You should start a new thread. These days I am inundated with custom decal jobs, so marketing has been a little weak lately. I will announce a whole bunch of sheets at the same time next week, and then slow down to finish the design of my first silkscreen sheet..
EF
Well, my order for 3 1/72 sheets has been placed.
Hoops
OK, I've just spent a whole lot of time converting all of my old .bmp based art into SVG files via Inkscape. Most of the portions of the MKK demonstrator 502's markings are done. Haven't colored them yet, but the vectors are there. And it looks darn good if I do say so myself. Stay tuned... -Jared
osjohnm
Kursad, just placed my order for 177th IAP Su-27 in 1/48. Thanks for having references and drawings with paint colours in the link. The Humbrol colours really help, can't get Model Master here. John

Does anyone have good reference photos of the "Test Pilots" scheme? I think a 1/32 sheet is needed.
osjohnm
My decals for the 177th IAP Su-27 did not sell well What? Did you made them? I want a couple of those. Efrain, they are here: http://www.kedidecals.com/177iap.html Hi all In the link to Kursad's decals there are links to colour refences for the 177th IAP, top and side profile. Correct me if I'm wrong but the Humbrol colours listed appear to be gloss colours? Does the 177th use a gloss scheme? Unfortunately my flanker scheme knowledge = 0 Along with Kursads decals this will be my first flanker! Thanks John
Hoops
As it seems that the flanker was freshly painted, as sort of a "show" scheme, it might be just a little bit glossy. Looking at the pictures in the walkaround, I don't think that it has been sitting around enough outside to really let it become dull yet. I think giving it a "semi-gloss" coat would be appropriate. Is there a more expert opinion that can wiegh in? -Jared
Hoops
OK, in progress art shot for the MKK demonstrators. I've been pretty busy with non modelling work, which has distracted from doing any art, but I have made some headway. These are far from being complete, but it gives an idea of where things are headed. Tthese are all in SVG format, some of it based off of the work that I did way back when in BMP, just converted over. The "504" Bort #'s are for the Primered MKK demonstrator that has been seen at MAKS '03. Also shown Here: http://racc.com.sapo.pt/MilIlYak/su27ub30/rus503.gif The other art is work towards "502" I've included the Paris "buzz" number for it's appearance at the Le Bourget Airshow in 2001. Check out the color scheme here: http://racc.com.sapo.pt/MilIlYak/su27ub30/rus502.gif I've got the Buzz Number done for the MKI demonstrator at the same airshow (the one that crashed). A little tweaking, and I'll have the Cy Logo, but I need to work on the "Irkut" logo. I've got the "Saturn" logo roughed in, as shown in the image, but it needs some more work, plus some of the pictures I have seem to indicate it was a little different on "01" and subsequently "06". Next step will be coming up with the Blue "01" and "06" to go with the First MKI demonstrators. Anyway, take a look, and give me any feed back as appropriate. Keep in mind, colors, sizes are just place just temp right now. Look at the shapes! -Jared
