Flankerman
Now we all known sukhoi had said he had a navy-figher project,Su-32FN/MF.And FN/MF prototype was showed at Paris. But Su-32MF/FN looks like Su-34,and almost no any different! Su-32MF/FN is Su-34?Is it a true prototype? :( Su-27IB, Su-33FN, Su-34MF - they are all the same aeroplane !!! Su-27IB is what the Russian AF would normally call it (although they may now bow to Sukhoi presure and call it Su-34?) Su-32FN is what Simonov(or was it Pogosyan?) called it at Paris - just a marketing ploy to try and sell a 'naval' variant. But it was only naval in the sense of littoral warfare - eg. anti-ship, coastal defence etc. It was never going to be ship-borne. The Russian press keep putting out news items saying that it is now entering service - but there is no evidence yet of actual operational machines - only prototype/development machines. And - just when you thought they had finally decided on Su-34 - the example on display at MAKS 05 had a board in front saying 'Su-32' !!!! :( Ho-hum Ken Attached is my pic of bort 48 at MAKS..... Flankerman
Here is a close-up of the data board in front of Bort 48 - clearly saying 'Su-32' Ken
Zactoman
It's just a tactic to confuse us Amerikanskis! Thanks for keeping us informed Ken!
fellex
Thanks ken ,but you can see the pics...........they are on the different prototype, bort 42/43/44/45/46,why? someone said there are different sensor inside,a radar or a ASW sensor Edited October 9, 2005 by fellex
Flex
Su-27IB is the description of the concept within Russian Air Force, but normally is being only referred to the first prototype having bort No. 42. This machine lacks the huge rear spine, as well as it has no radar and no tandem main landing gear. Su-34 is referred to land-based tactical strike variant (at least should be).. All machines currently being built are the Su-34 standard. There is/was only one Su-32FN and that is No.44 which was or at least should have been equipped with somewhat different avionics suite called Sea Dragon (?).. IIRC, Sea Dragon shall be somewhat simpler version of what Il-38 upgrades have. There are some more weird things, for example the T10V-2 #43 has white radome on its rear spine, but I am too confused to say..

But the very latest - bort 48 - is clearly displayed as a 'Su-32' !!! and - IIRC - the machine displayed at Farnborough a few years ago (I have the pics somewhere) was labeled as a 'Su-32MF' !!!!! Ken Yes, it is damn confusing.. The suffix FN and MF stands for Fighter Navy and Marine Fighter so I guess we could put those two on par..
Flankerman
ALL of these variations are just figments of the Sukhoi publicity machine... They have no bearing on reality. When the T-10V eventually enters service, it will be given an official designation by the Russian AF - not Sukhoi. If the RusAF stick to their previous system, it SHOULD be called the Su-27IB - because all previous versions of the Flanker were called Su-27 - with suffix letters denoting the changes.... Su-27 (basic fighter). Su-27UB (tandem combat trainer) Su-27K (naval fighter - called Su-33 by Sukhoi) Su-27M (super Flanker - called Su-35 by Sukhoi) Su-27IB (Platypus - called Su-33/34 etc by Sukhoi) Su-27KUB (Naval strike/trainer -sometimes called Su-33UB by Sukhoi) Su-30 - ooops - it all goes wrong here..... HOWEVER..................... Although the AVMF (Naval Air Arm) initially called the 'Sea Flanker' the Su-27K - they eventually caved in to Sukhoi and now call it OFFICIALLY, the Su-33. With that precedence in mind, the RusAF will probably call the T-10V Platypus the Su-32 or Su-34. Let's wait and see................ Ken PS - in the above list, the suffixes stand for... UB = Uchebno Boyevoy - "Combat Trainer" K = Korable - "Shipborne" M = Modifikatsiya - "Modified/Upgraded" IB = Istrebitel Bombardirovschik - "Fighter Bomber" KUB = Korable Uchebno Boyevoy - "Shipborne Combat Trainer" PPS - Apologies to any Russian speakers for the transliterations above
