Dave P
Hi Folks, Does anyone out there know of a hobby shop in Canada, or USA that stock the Fine Molds 1/72 X-Wing and Tie Fightres? thanks Dave
CraigSargent
Dave, FWIW, you might want to try Hobby Link Japan, as from experience, the kits land much cheaper than buying locally. Not only that, but FM have just re-released the X-Wing with a cast brass figure of Threepio at no extra cost...
Jay Chladek
Agreed. FM kits sold at hobby shops on this side of the pond tend to be marked up a bit. Reason is that the importers buy them at Japanese retail, mark them up for their cut, then the hobby shop marks them up for an additional cut. So you end up potentially paying about 30 to 40% more then Japanese retail for the same kit. Go with HLJ. I have ordered from them for about 6 years now and have always been satisfied with their service and products. The problems I have had have been very few (only one, item shipped to old address) and they fixed them with no lingering problems. And if you like those kits and have the budget, order a Millenium Falcon as forget even seeing that for less then $200 on this side of the pond once they come out (assuming any shop is dumb enough to try and mark those already expensive kits up). Dave P
Craig, Jay, Thanks for the advice. I agree it looks like ordering direct from Japan is the way to go. The only lingering question I have is the duty Canada charges on Plastic models when they come into the contry? Anyone know what Canada charges in duty? thanks Dave
Viceland
No duty on model kits from Japan. But be prepared to pay $5 Canada Customs handling fee + GST & PST (or HST) on declared value.
kylwell
Starship Modeler is carrying them Star Wars kits
Lansen
Since the duty/customs fee keep coming up on these subjects I'd like to add that no mather if you get caught in customs or not, it's always cheaper to buy direct from japan that from a local retailer. Big Kohona
Speaking of Duties/Customs, plastic model kits are Duty Free - you only pay the G & PST plus the $5 handling fee.

Dave P
Hi Guys, in case your interested... I ordered the X-wing, and TIE fighter from HLJ. They shipped it on 8 Dec 2005 and I recieved it 30 Dec 2005. I live in Ontario, Canada. It only cost me $12 (GST/PST including the $5 charge). I already have the X-wing built and am about to start painting it. Excellent little kits! cheers Dave
