A Navy fighter jet has crashed near San Diego during a routine training mission, killing the pilot. A Navy news release says the single seat FA-18C Hornet went down just before 8 p.m. last night in the small desert town of El Centro. Officials say the plane was based at Naval Air Station Lemoore in Central California. The military is investigating the cause of the crash. Officials are withholding the pilot's name until family members are notified. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Rumours say it was a VFA-125 aircraft.
