HGE
I was looking at my AMTech JU88 kits last night and wondering about the 4 Rather large bombs supplied with each kit. ( They are huge!!!) Does anybody know anthing about these bombs or if they are accurate? Does anybody have a link to a picture? Thanks, Henry
jrallman
check out the progress link for my Bf 110 in the BoB GB, there are a few pics of German bombs posted there, one of which is quite large

ReiShikiSenGuy
Do they have those whistles on the tips of the fins?
The Keeper
As I recall a discussion on the whistles, they were intended for use with the Stuka, which was also equipped with a "whine" generator. The two of them together were designed to terrorize the opposition but were phased out in the later war years. Anyone got anything more concrete?
HGE
Thanks for the link Jester Based on that info they are probably SD1700 since they have the Kopfring on the nose. They look like they would be about 12 feet long. Thanks, Henry
Jason C-C
The bombs are much more likely to be the SC1000, which also has the nose ring. Given the weight, I think that the Ju-88 would be hard pressed to lift a pair of 1700kg bombs. A normal 88 bombload might consist of four 500kg bombs, or two of 1000kg. Later marks might have more lifting power I suppose. To be sure, you might want to measure the bomb length, and multiply by 72 to get the actual length! regards, Jason [edited for equivocation!] Edited January 25, 2006 by Jason C-C
HGE
Thanks Jason, I'll try that. These are the latter Ju88 ( s ) and the only reference to the bombs is a box top picture of 2 being carried. I'm guessing about 12 ft right now based on them being about twice the length of a figure in that scale. I should get the calipers out! Thanks, Henry
Mark M.
Basic Ju88 load was either 250kg (roughly 500lb) bombs or 500kg (roughly 1000lb) bombs, in combinations of 2 light, 4 light, 2 light and 2 heavy, or 4 heavy (by light/heavy I just mean of these 250kg/500kg set). In addition, depending on the mission the Ju88s could carry up to 20 50kg bombs in racks as well.
