I will soon start triple 1/48 phantom project:

1) F-4E Iranian Air Force (hasegawa) (desert camo)

2) F-4D South Korean AF (italeri) (SEA camo)

3) F-4D or J or E (Italeri)...but what scheme?

I need to decide...so far the most probable is the U.S. marines hi-vis scheme included on the decal sheet (the one with stars on the fin)

...but, may be, there is some scheme that could be interesting too...

I am looking for a camo scheme that is

a ) significantly different from my 1) and 2) projects

B ) not Israeli, not Greek 'ghost scheme', not German (neither regular, nor special schemes), not other grey-grey schemes (I do not like them that much)

c ) some out-of the norm operator would be preferred, but I could 'settle' with U.S. machine as well, if the scheme is interesting enough

Any suggestions?

Pics would be most welcome!

Thanks,

Jan

Have you thought of converting the F-4E into an F-4EJ kai with the blue on blue Mitsu F-2 scheme?

Or any Japanese Aggressor F-4EJ (not much difference from a USAF F-4E bird)

Or make the J into the black Playbunny/blue Blue Angels.

btw Jan, for your South Korean AF, are you making that one with the large Korean words on the fuselage? If so, where are you getting the decals from?

Thanks for the ideas, guys... I will definitely think about the Japanese blue-blue scheme.

I got them from me :D ...have drawn the artwork in CorelDraw, and had it printed on ALPS printer

Here is the artwork

You mentioned that you don't want to do a Greek "Ghost Scheme," I think the Greek Blue-Gray over Aluminum scheme would look cool. That's how I'm planning to do my next F-4E.

Then there's alos plenty of light gray (ADC Gray) schemes for USAF and Air National Guard F-4C/D aircraft if you don't want to do the two-tone Hill Gray-type schemes.

Good luck with your F-4s, sounds like a fun project.

You state: a ) significantly different from my 1) and 2) projects.

Since you include the F-4J in your last set, I'd say go with that. A USN J would be different from all those others with flashy markings over 16440/white scheme would be very different. Or if you can bump it up to an F-4S you could go with a VF-301 4-tone camo scheme, see:

Or if you want to be really different you could turn the D or J into a NAVY F-4G (yes they did exist)

I second that, an all-green Navy F-4G (not your garden variety Wild Weasel F-4G, a different aircraft altogether) would be great. I haven't seen many of those built.

You would actually have to base the Navy G model from a B model kit. The Navy F-4G was just a B model with an Automatic Carrier Landing System installed, where the plane would trap aboard the boat under remote guidance/control. I do not think the Navy F-4G ever flew SEAD/ Iron Hand missions. Later, the designation was abandoned and later taken over by the Air Force Wild Weasel version.

Take Care,

Thomas
