Hey fellow group builders...

I have begun the long process of building my Kiowa by opening the box and staring for ten minutes....

Then it hit me, they give you so many different weapon options, and I am thinking, which one should I use.

Possibilities (choose two), and there are enough for doubles (except the .50)

1.) Stinger Missiles

2.) HYDRA 70mm rocket pod

3.) Hellfire Missiles

4.) .50 Machine Gun

Plus any refrence pictures of the differences between the OH-58D and the OH-58A would be helpful, because I have pics of the A version that I saw at the Oshgosh airshow.

(edited) Also, should I add the doors or not? I was thinking about leaving the front doors off and the back doors on.

I hear ya ! When i poped the lid 2 years ago.... I just stared at it for a couple minutes , then proceeded to close it back up and it's been on the shelf since .

When I build mine ( if I ever do ) the weapons load will be the Hellfire missiles on the right and the .50 cal on the left , minus the front doors. The rear doors should stay in place though.

Mr. Floyd Werner,Jr. built this kit ( he actually flew the bird ...) and posted an article somewhere. I'll look around for it.

Don't chew too long. We start filming the next installment this weekend. Natural Metal Finishes using the Tamiya P-47D in 1/48th. Hopefully it will be as well received. Thanks for the words of encouragement and your business.

Back to the Kiowa Warrior questions.

1- Can't get there from here as far as making a D model an A. Totally different cowling arrangement. Different size tailboom. Wrong type of "greenhouse" windows. Different rotor system completly two versus four blades. That ought to be enough.

2-Leave the doors off. Unless it was the winter time they were always off because of better visibility.

3-Armament. normally you wouldn't see stingers unless we were going to go out and shoot them, but they were mounted occasionally. So you can put them in the spare parts bin. OK Hellfire, if you are going to mount just ONE it has to be on the right side. .50 cal MUST be mounted on the right side. Rocket pods can be mounted any place in keeping with the hellfire and .50 information. So here is what you can do;

R-Hellfire (see note) or rocket pod or stinger

L-Gun, hellfire if mounted with other hellfire on right, stinger, or rocket

Typical loads are:

rocket and .50 used for gunnery training

hellfire and .50 best long range and precision and short range stuff, typical Iraq load

hellfire and rocket

rocket and rocket

That should make it clear as mud. As always check your sources. Also refer to my two articles already mentioned

Floyd
