HGE
Can anyone fill me in on the SB2C Academy model? The dive flaps show indentations.... Should they be perferated or is that only for a SB2C-3 model? Since the kit is supposed to be a -4 model are the indentations accurate or should they be smooth? Thanks, Henry
Rich Mathsen
Hi, Henry. The -4 version of the Beast had perforated dive flaps. The -3 had solid ones. Hope that helps. Regards, Rich
LanceB
According to my references (Squadron In Action and Famous Airplanes of the World) the dive flap situation was this: SB2C-1C smooth-skinned dive flaps SB2C-3 (early) same as above SB2C-3 (late), all SB2C-4 and -5 perforated dive flaps Academy is correct for a -4, and could also be built as a late -3 or a -5 with minor modifications. You would need to fill in all those dimples (as well make a couple of other minor mods) for an early -3, or fill the dimples, source a new prop and make a couple more mods for a -1C. HGE
Would I need to open up those dimples to actual perforations to be accurate? Thanks, Henry
DonSS3
In short, yes, you'd need to drill them out. Or wait for Eduard or Part to produce a flap set for the Academy kit.
