Recommended Posts

Finished a 1/48 Italeri Twin Huey converted with Belcher Bits resin into a RCAF AETE Griffon. All three helos use Above and Below decals. The Dark blue SOR is a rebuild and paint, The SAR in yellow was done several years ago when the decals Above and Below does, were done by Canmilair.

Here are 3 models from the last couple months.

First a Eduard reboxing of the Hasegawa P-40N in 1/32 scale.  This is out of the box but of course there is a lot of Eduard stuff in the box.

Next is a duo build I just finished of the Kinetic and Classic Airframe F-5 Tiger.  Both are 1/48 scale.  I used the Classic Airframe decals on the Kinetic kit in the markings of a Skoshi Tiger F-5C in SEA paint scheme.  The Classic Airframe kit got Kinetic decals for an F-5A that was used by the USAF before deliver to Greece.  It is in Aircraft Gray with hi-viz red/orange highlights.  Both kits went together very well.  The Kinetic had better surface detail but both look the part when completed.  The worst I can say about either kit is the Kinetic flat end open box is a pain.

I have built up a collection of un-built Phantoms and now is great time to be a Phantom Phanatic with all the new releases.  I decided to start building some of my Phantoms.  I started with the Z-M F-4J and the Academy kit of the same plane.  I built them out of the box with the exception of alternate decals.  the Z-M kit got a set of CAM decals for a plane from VMF-312.  These have been in my stash for many years but they performed just fine.  The Academy kit got a set of Vagabond decals covering Dem Bones VF-84.  Hope You like.

This is the second Academy F-4 I've built and it seems when I assemble the main gear legs they always want to angle inward (like pigeon toed).  I haven't been able to correct it so I have to manipulate the way the wheels are attached to prevent the pigeon toe look.  They both have good detail the Z-M kit being a bit more refined and more exact fit.  The Z-M instructions are very detailed and try to prevent any user error.  If I had to choose one brand over the other I would probably choose the Z-M kit, but I have several of both and I will eventually build them all.   My next attempt will be a Tamiya F-4B.

To the ZM vs Academy F-4. It still grinds my gears that ZM go the rear end wrong on the short nose variants. In this day and age, how you do that is beyond me. Otherwise, the engineering is great. The Academy is fantastic. Though I have run into the same toe in issue. At least I know its not just me. Otherwise, the Academy is perfect shape wise. I have the ZM D kit, but wont get any others. I will stick with the Academy.

That aside, just finished this a couple days ago. Mengs 1/35 D9R with Friul metal tracks. The kit ones suck IMO. I almost tossed it due to them. Thankfully I found the Friul tracks.
