What did you just finish building?

Recommended Posts

Finished last month. 1/72 Hasegawa F-14A Tomcat. This was an old mold with the swing wings and not as detailed as the newer molds. It came out OK except for the crappy fit of the canopy. VF-1 Wolfpack early 90s.

ACADEMY 1/800 Scale USS Kitty Hawk with CVW11 circa 1970 during the last years of Vietnam War in Gulf of Tonkin. It was a great exercise in micro modelling and micro-decalling……especially the “NH” tail codes. I’m now having a rest for a while to let my eyes recover.

My latest completion.  Z-M F-4E early with Zotz decals and Mr. Color lacquer paints.  Kit was built out of the box, but I did add bombs and the jamming pod from Eduard.  Didn't need any putty.  Joy to build.

Thanks for looking.  I have another Z-M Phantom on the bench right now.  A F-4S along with a Hasegawa F-4S.  One will be a Marine and the other a Navy bird.

Very good looking Phantom. The unique tan nose is a bonus. And the ease of build, always a plus.

I only used the kit decals for the missiles and stencils.  They worked ok.  I used Zots decals for the main markings.  The kit decals seem to be high quality, thin and high resolution.  You can read "no step" on the stencils.

Thanks for the kind words.

2 More Phantoms.

1.  Z-M F-4S done as VMFA-312 in a TPS scheme.  Furball Decals, kit built OOB.  I did use a left over Quinta seat harness set on the ejection seats.

2 Hasegawa F-4s done as VF-161 in all Gull Gray.  This one had some help.  I used a Quinta set for the cockpit, Steel Beach Intake Covers and Cobra Company Burner Cans.  Furball Decals and missiles left over from previous Z-M F-4s.

Not a criticism but an honest question: what was your reason to use the Quinta set on the closed cockpit build vs the open cockpit build?

The hasegawa kits do not lend themselves to open cockpits with a lot of strength so I usually pose them closed.  One of the little tabs at the back of the rear canopy had already broken off.  On the other hand, I had a quinta set to use.  And the canopies are clear enough to see through.  That's it.

The Z-M cockpit looked pretty good on its own so I just added some left over Quinta harnesses.
