parche
Anybody know about the history and quality of the Academy 1/48 A-4E/F kit (#1657)? Thanks, Cheers, Dave
g0_command0
If its like its TA-4F, then it will be 1/50 scale with a poor cockpit
KursadA
If it's a new kit, my guess is that it's the Hobbycraft mold; considering that Academy reboxes Hobbycraft molds all the time. This kit was released more or less at the same time as the Hasegawa kit. It is not as good as the Hasegawa kit in terms of detail, and unfortunately it suffers from a badly shaped canopy (which can be fixed by using a vacform replacement). It fits well and comes with a very nice and complete weapons load, but it does not enjoy a good reputation online, largely thanks to the relentless efforts of a few individuals who happened to hate the kit. If you're going to build only one A-4E/F, I suggest you go for the Hasegawa kit. If you're going to be building several, the Hobbycraft mold should serve you well with a replacement canopy. DonSS3
The Academy kit I've got is basically a re-pop of Fujimi's OLD (early-70s?) A-4E in 1/50th scale. Pass on this one and get a Hobbycraft or Hasegawa kit.
Kwek
Re-pop of Fujimi 1/50th scale kit, with engraved lines plus undercarriage and cockpit parts that looks very similar to that of the Monogram Skyhawk kit. The TA-4J version may be worth considering. Overall the Academy Skyhawks are not too bad kit though superseded by the arrival of the Hobbycraft and Hasegawa versions. Price may be a major consideration as it costs only a quarter of the Hasegawa kit. Edited March 13, 2006 by Kwek
