Chuck1945
Unfortunately Bodie's book on the P-47 - From Seversky to Victory - has some coverage on the P-43, but I couldn't find anything specific to your question. In addition during the WWII era the 'R' designation meant 'Restricted' not 'Reconnaissance'. The restricted designation would be assigned when the aircraft was deemed unfit for deployment/use in a combat zone.

kiwikitbasher
I tink you'll find that the PE oval shaped pieces designed to go either side of the rear fuselage are the cameras ports.

Chuck1945
I have the newer kit, as soon as I can I will scan the instructions (assuming those show the location of camera ports).
