Hi Guys,

I've been thinking for a long time now of what paint scheme to do for my Concorde. As the Future is drying, I sit here with a sheet for Air France and British Airways (Old Scheme). I simply can't choose, and decided to make this poll to get the public's opinion. This model will be done in about 2 or 3 weeks, so I will post pictures ASAP.

Air France

British Airways (Old Scheme)

Thanks!!

Both are nice looking - but I always liked the old BRITISH AIRWAYS scheme best. Just has a real "Classy" look about it like the airliners of old did - not the "Flying Billboards" of today.

How about doing something really different and replicate the demonstrator for Singapore Airlines? It has Singapore livery on one side and BA livery on the other?

But to directly answer your question, definitely BA -- just more regal looking.

Or, I seem to recall my dad took pics of one that landed in Boston, which had BA on one side and AF on the other. It was for publicity purposes of course, during the initial marketing campaign, but it could solve your problems, the more I think about it....yes, a real bird painted like that!

French built jet F-WTSA had the half and half BA/Air France scheme, but the AF scheme was the older style paintjob. No Concorde to my knowledge was ever painted in BA and the current AF livery (introduced in the mid-1970s). No jet had the Braniff livery either although one supposedly was in the paintshop with plans to have that scheme applied to one side when Braniff stopped Concorde service.

Of the schemes your choosing, the BA liveries I like better. For me though, it tends to be a toss up between the original red tail Landor livery and the 80s Landor livery first introduced on G-BOAG.

BRANIFF CONCORDES:

I should have made that clear when I posted the pictures. Those images are two "Airline Issued" postcards to advertise their upcomming Concorde service and what the aircraft might look like. They are actually from what I have been able to find out - retouched photos of British Airlines Concorde airliners. Braniff Airlines never had a Concorde in their colors though they had them on order. The FAA put the squash on Concorde flights over the U.S. so that killed what could have possibly been a great surge in the number of Concordes produced.

Just thought it would be interesting for something "Different" if he was having trouble picking a paint scheme.

<S>! :)

Hmmm...I like the TWA on that selection! Pan Am, Lufthansa and Eastern aren't bad either.

Very nicely done! I just love that livery as the red cheat stripe makes it so much better then just a white fuselage with a painted tail like so many planes are today.

BTW, for anyone wanting to do a Braniff Concorde, if you can find the USAirfix issue of the Airfix kit, it had the 1/2 side Braniff markings from the postcards in the kit (BA for the other side IIRC). The USAirfix airliner sheets were Scalemaster decals, so they should hold up well for lack of use if you can find a kit.

Concerning the Pepsi Concorde, I believe the wings would have been painted if Pepsi opted to (but the paint bill probably would have more then doubled due to the surface that needed covering). Air France did the paintwork on the plane and indeed there was an issue with the blue paint causing hot spots if the plane was flown at supersonic speeds for extended periods. But, the Pepsi blue plane flew all its public appearances at subsonic speeds and it only remained in that livery for about three weeks before getting repainted back in standard Air France colors. BTW, if anyone models it, although the nose visor was blue like the plane, apparently the window frames under the visor remained white in color.
