Zmey Smirnoff
why Russian Knights do keep those things under wings used for keeping missiles (damn...what is right word for these things in English :o ) on their Flankers? ...they are not front line unit, are they?? Pylons/hardpoints arent easily removed from those planes. The Knights fly combat capable machines and AFAIK they retain all equipment of a front line unit. HTH Z.S.
Flankerman
why Russian Knights do keep those things under wings used for keeping missiles (damn...what is right word for these things in English :o  ) on their Flankers? ...they are not front line unit, are they?? Jan, You mean the missile attachment pylons ?? AFAIK, they are part of the Moscow Defence region - so they are still front line - as well as being a flight demonstration squadron to show off the prowess of Russian aviation at home and abroad. In the UK, the RAF Red Arrows aerobatic team also have a front-line role in time of conflict - as part of airfield defence. Ken

Les / Creative Edge Photo
Happy birthday. I saw the Knights at the 1993 Abbotsford Air show. The SU-27 in formation are really big aircraft. They put on a commendable show.
