Paints for Soviet Aircraft??

Recommended Posts

I've found where Testors makes some paints for Soviet Aircraft.

Example, TS2135 Interiou blue/green... TS2123 Underside Blue etc.etc....

Think these paints are close enough or would mixing my own be sufficent? ( for contest quality )

Thanks, Henry

In my opinion....

The cockpit interior blue-green is great for aircraft needing that particular color. I also like the Flanker colors, and the light Fulcrum gray, although the darker Fulcrum color looks a bit light for my personal tastes...

As for many of the more generic-sounding colors, I would encourage mixing and experimenting. There was no set shade for any given color type in the Soviet Union, so there was a LOT of variety as to the underside light colors, the browns, the greens, everything. Totally different from the tightly-regulated US standards.

Just my opinion.

It is a popular misconception that there was colour anarchy in the Soviet Union......

I think that Testors cockpit blue/green (for planes such as MiG-21/25/31) and the Fulcrum colors are very nice. Can't tell about Flanker colors, but I trust Ken Duffey on these.

Talking about the Fulcrum colors instead, Testors "Fulcrum Gray/Green" is a really good match for a freshly painted MiG-29, however this colors seems to fade to a more grayish hue rather quickly under operational conditions. The Fulcrum Gray is instead simply a semigloss FS-26440 (US Light Gull Gray), so it's widely available in any paint range.
