fellex
it seemd a sukhoi fighter "back-fired"a Air-to-Air missile.Maybe R-73? There was a rumour that the new generation sukhoi fighters include su-35 su-33UB and su-32 installed a "look-back" radar in middle of 90s. Who can proof it?
Trigger
It is true, but you must think in Russian! Seriously though, I have no idea
fellex
Does anyone has a "look-back" radar picture?
habu2
missile is guided by "Relppod Radar"
KursadA
You certainly don't need a radar to fire an R-73, I doubt there was a radar involved in this test. I believe Su-34 has a rearward facing radar, though.
bigpaul
Does the diagram show the rear firing missile as a defensive weapon? It looks like they show it intercepting an incoming missile.
A-4Silverfox
Bogus photos. All the major missile manufacturers and Air Forces have tried to over-come the physics of the forward thrust of the aircraft and the amount of thrust required to move aft while travelling forward at speeds in excess of three hundred knots if not greater. The second problem is aerodynamics in design. Butt end of the missile is open for the thrust port of the motor, and if it's facing into the airstream when launched, the missile tumbles which means it could be aimed at the host aircraft when ignition occurs. Not Good. The best article written on these problems was in the Smithsonians' Air & Space Mag about six months ago, maybe.
