Richard J
Honda, that is looking absolutly wonderful. Excellent work. I hope you don't mind if I give you a little friendly advice. Don't use the old CAM VF-84 decal sheet on your F-14. There are several reasons for this... First, that decal sheet is horribly inaccurate. The lettering on the tail is the wrong shape, and the yellow chevrons in the nose stripe are too small. The Nose numbers (201) are too large. Finally, the M in NIMITZ is the wrong style. I haven't seen the new release of these decals, but I suspect the artwork hasn't changed. Also, your amazing F-14 is configured more like an aircraft from the early 90's. It has the later NACA gun gas vents (which can be backdated with Cutting Edge set CEC32002), the TCS pod under the nose, and the various ECM bumps associated with later aircraft. The VF-84 Tomcat featured on the CAM decal sheet had none of those details. Your Tomcat is going to look fantastic no matter which markings you use, but it would be more accurate if you either choose decals for a 1990s aircraft, or backdate your model to the earlier configuration. I wish my Tamiya F-14 looked half as good as yours! Keep up the good work. -Richard Edited May 11, 2006 by Richard J

Skull Leader
Really beautiful kit! I can only think of a few things... when did VF-84 use black droptanks? I have never seen any pictures of VF-84 jets using black droptanks with the Vegabond stripes on them. (now, VF-103 Jolly Rogers, I've seen plenty with the stripes on the tank). Anyone have any pics? Also... your paintscheme and decal work are PERFECT, however, you've got a very early paintscheme on a very late F-14A. (the paintscheme is accurate for around 1980-81, the F-14 itself is accurate for around 1990 and on). Still a very impressive build! Hornet78
Going along with the Skull Leaders points which stuck out in my mind too. I think the missiles should be white. The airframe color scheam and slanted modex numbers clearly sugjest a late 70's early 80.s bird so the missiles should be white. The drop tanks "If any" should be white too. These are real easy fixes to get a more accurate model if you so wish Honda. As they say it's your model, build it as you wish. I love all the detail and now I'm motivated to build mine in these markings. Jim
