Boywillie
I just paid my first visit of the year to the Yorkshire Air Museum at Elvington and things are really getting busy this year. The workshops and the hangars seemed to be full of new and exciting exhibits (including a Gannet, which has got to go down as probably the ugliest aircraft ever) and they are all set in the wonderful environment of an ex-World War II airfield (well,,, part of one anyhow). I guess the best known of the exhibits is "Friday 13th", the Halifax composite which dominates the Canadian Memorial Hangar, but the place is also full of surprises too. The Barnes Wallis collection is fascinating and the Air Gunners Room is a must see because the guys who staff it are all ex-gunners and are prepared to talk at length with anyone who wants to listen. This last one shows my son (age 6), sat in the pilot's position in a Canberra cockpit section which he thought was waaaaayyyyyyyy cool! The Museum is well worth the trip! Look forward to maybe seeing some of you there one day! Regards Willie
