Ollie T-Y
Well, as some of you may know, i was pondering on buying an Academy F-16CG for about £60, when i came about the Revell F-14A on eBay for £31. id say thats pretty good, although i do know some places sell it cheaper. But anyway, I do need to buy new paints, and i want some input from you guys as to which colours i buy for it.

Ollie T-Y
OK, and if i wanted to do an older version, what colours would i need?
Andrew D. the Jolly Rogers guy
The old original colors were 36440 Light Gull Gray over Gloss White.
phantom
older, gloss white undersides and moving surfaces. The rest gloss gull grey 6440. Then whatever colours are required for the squadron you are doing. Lots of bright and colourful options in the 70's and early 80's.

Ollie T-Y
Is that just to show me paint schemes or are those the decal options in the kit?
General Grievous
Is that just to show me paint schemes or are those the decal options in the kit? He put those just to show you examples of the main paint schemes that were used on the Tomcat. GG
Andy Mullen
Is that just to show me paint schemes or are those the decal options in the kit? Ollie, I don't have the kit (1/72, 1/48 or 1/32?) you are referring to, so I can't show you which schemes are in the kit. I put those up to show you some of the shcemes that were used. Ollie T-Y
Cheers mate Its the 1/32 scale, and i like the look of that middle one
Darren Roberts
If it's the same markings that come in the one I've got, it comes with VF-124 Gunfighters and VF-111 Sundowners (subdued markings - all gray). The parts that come in the kit would let you do that middle paint scheme. You can do just about any squadron with the overall Gull Gray.
John B
Just to make the muddy water a little muddier, you actually have a lot of options available for the F-14A. You'll find that every single Tomcat squadron has flown the "A" model of the F-14. Many of them are represented in 1/32nd scale decals. I think the kit parts restrict you to a timeframe from the mid-1970s to the early 1990s. (I'll let others get into the details why, but let's set that aside for now.) That's not a bad thing. The F-14A wore all the schemes that folks have already mentioned. It just opens up more decal options for you. (Okay, having too many decal choices could be a problem.) You may gain some insight into what 1/32 F-14A markings from these pages - The F-14 Gallery on Scott VanAken's site - http://www.modelingmadness.com/others/feat...age/f14page.htm ARC F-14 Gallery #1 http://www.aircraftresourcecenter.com/Gal-...s/F-14/F-14.htm ARC F-14 Gallery #2 http://www.aircraftresourcecenter.com/Gal-...-14/F-14-02.htm ARC F-14 Gallery #3 http://www.aircraftresourcecenter.com/Gal-...-14/F-14-03.htm The easiest thing to do is find a set of markings you'd like to use (whether kit or aftermarket decals) and ask folks which colors go with those markings. The best suggestion is to #1 pick the 3 or 4 of your favorite F-14A markings. Why don't you take a look at this page on Tomcat Alley? http://www.tomcatalley.com/images/f14a/f14aimg.htm #2 Ask the folks on this board "Are there decals in 1/32 scale for this jet? Are they appropriate for my 1/32 Revell F-14A?" Posting a link or the image itself will be a great aid to who choose to help you out. #3 Ask folks "What paint colors were used in this scheme?" It sounds like a silly over-simplification, but it really does narrow down the options and speed up the process. Example - Are decals for this jet available? Are they appropriate for my 1/32 F-14A? What colors were used? (Mick Roth image on www.tomcatalley.com) People familiar with 1/32 F-14 decals will (hopefully) answer YES!! Superscale did those markings in 1/32! The color is overall gloss gull gray (FS16440). Unfortunately, you may like markings for which decals were never made, but that's you should 3 or 4 you like. Hope this helps. Build what you like!
