Darren Roberts
Hello fellow ARCers. I've got an idea to put past you and see what you think for our ARC gathering. About 10-12 minutes away from the convention site is the Ameristar Entertainment complex. It includes restaurants, a casino, a movie theater, and a pretty nice video arcade. It is an easy drive on major roads and simple to find. It would provide plenty of space for a large gathering, and options of things to do after we're done eating. We could all meet at a specific location at the convention and carpool/caravan over. Afterwards, people could go whichever direction they chose. I would suggest a Thursday night (barring that Twobobs has their get together that night), since not everyone will be in on Wednesday, Friday is judging (and the restaurants get absolutely PACKED) and Saturday is the banquet/awards ceremony. Let me know what you think. I'm going down to the site today and will come up with other possibilities if you guys don't like this one. It's going to be a great time! Darren Roberts
I'm pretty sure the Hospitality Party is Thursday night. That's what I thought. I'm open to suggestions for another night, or other ideas of what to do.
jbrundt
Where will the hospitality party be? Also, will there be some sort of "unofficia/after hours event schedule" published? My entourage will be arriving Thursday afternoon from KSTL and it would be nice to have a prior idea where certain festivities may be. Jeff
Kelly Quirk
The Hospitality Party will be on the second floor, right over the lobby of the Hyatt. Simply go up the escalator and you're there. I don't know the time yet or the particulars, I have nothing to do with the planning of this event. We won't have anything official published about after hour get togethers. Your best bet is to watch this space, I'm sure Darren will keep everybody posted.
gkwan
Darren, You (or someone) are just going to have to pick a date. There is always something going on with someone each and every night. You will never find one date or time that can please everyone - simply not possible. Maybe you can do the more formal event on Wed night and maybe an informal gathering for drinks at the hotel bar (or something like that) on Friday early evening to catch the people coming in later, but before judging starts? Chris Kethan
As long as there is plenty of beer, I'm sure it will be a success. Chris

Darren Roberts
Hey, do you guys have any non-alcohol stuff planned? Just wondering....B) I'm sure there will be non-alcoholic beverages available. I'm a non-drinker, so at the very least, I'll bring a 2-liter bottle of soda. What kind do you want? Pepsi, Coke, Dr. Pepper? You name it.
phantomgirl
My thought is either the Ameristar or Tanners........Thanks for the ideas, Its nice that so many are interested.........We can meet up after the nats and see who needs rides and go from there if that sounds good to everyone else.....Thanks again buddy......... gkwan
How about both? Wednesday for Ameristar since there is so much you can do there and you will need more time if you want to do anything over there (for those not familiar - this place is HUGE - believe it is at least 4 blocks long and this is all indoors). And Fri for Tanners since it is closer and some people may have to get back for judging. Just a thought. Gordon Edited June 30, 2006 by gkwan
phantomgirl
:) I think its a great idea.....Altough I was informed not everybody will be in town Wed. However I think any of the 3 nights propose a problem for somebody...Getting everyone to agree on one day is way too hard. Im all about both.....

I'm personally going to try to bring a couple items from NJ, i'm flying in with my mom on Aug2 morning. See ya there. Anthony To everyone else: We could try to get to that movie theater Darren was mentioning to see a movie as a group...might even give us a group rate :) You dont think Whiteman AFB would let us in for tours...right? I mean B-2 = pretty confidential stuff eh? Edited July 1, 2006 by AnthonyWan
gkwan
FYI - The theater being referred to is an 18 screen theater that is part of the Ameristar complex. It is at the west end. My wife and I highly recommend the Arthur Bryant's BBQ. This is where we go when we get a taste for BBQ. You get a heaping BBQ sandwich with tons of fries for less than $10. In fact I just saw Bryant's original location featured a couple of days ago on either the Food Channel or Travel Channel (can't remember which one). The Ameristar location is their only other location and is in a much better part of town.
SBARC
I want to get in at least one KC BBQ dinner while I'm there. I'm flying in late Tuesday and flying out early Sunday. Steve B

SBARC
I definately want to do a BBQ at least once while I'm there. If Arthur Bryant's has great food that shouldn't be missed and room for a group of 20 people than that should do the trick. Is Arthur Bryant's a casual type restaurant? And I'm guessing that it's the type of place that minors are permitted in? Steve B
snake111
Arthur Bryants is deffinatly casual, family friendly, and just darned good.
FrankC
Not sure how all this is going to get organized but I am sure looking forward to hanging out with everyone again this year! just a couple weeks to go! woohoo
SBARC
Not sure how all this is going to get organized but I am sure looking forward to hanging out with everyone again this year! just a couple weeks to go! woohoo I'll talk to Steve F and we'll read through all the threads and posts here and try to set up some sort of schedule that will work for everyone......or most people. --I'd like to have some non-alcholic events for the younger ARC'ers..... --we'll also have the Twobobs aprty on Thursday..... --we need to fit in a BBQ dinner.....schedule some after dinner bar time........ --maybe some fast food lunches in the mall on site.... --perhaps a caravan ride to the local model shop(s) if they are worth the drive.... --maybe some breakfasts together, either buffet type ones at the hotel and or off site breakfasts at a close place like I hop or Dennys or something like that. And maybe some other ideas.....the idea is to have a schedule of sorts where we can all meet for meals and drinks etc.....and if you want to come you will know where everyone is. Or you can skip certain events depending on your mood etc. Steve B
gkwan
Steve, None of the hobby stores are that close and none are worth the drive. You will be much better off in the vendor room. Gordon

Good idea.....it's easier to stay on site as much as possible......especially for someone like me that doesn't perform good in the heat........I'm pampered by our mild cool pacific north west weather. J.C. Bahr
None of the hobby stores are that close and none are worth the drive. Really?!?! <_< I do beg to differ! Some people might find the drive to Lawrence and Topeka worth the trip to catch George's and Fun for All, respectively!
