boscosticks
Hey guys, I don't know whether I should attach my wings to the fuselage first and then begin airbrushing or if I should paint both seperately (I am scared that my airbrushing will mess up my grey underside). I'm also confused about how I should go at my engines without getting overspray onto my props. Any suggestions?
MHaz
I would go ahead and attach the wings to the fuselage and clean up the seams before I painted. As for the grey underside, last time I did a camo herc, I did the underside grey very last, and taped a notecard at the wing root to protect the camo. For the props, use a notecard with a slit in it, wide enough to take the shaft of the prop without flexing the card, and slide it behind the prop, then tape a small plastic baggie to the card to enclose the prop. FlyingSnowmew
You can paint it while disassembled or assembled. It's really up to you. What do you mean by painting the engines? Do you mean you're painting the engine naceles or the actual engines themselves? You can mask the props using many different ways. I think you should use masking tape to wrap the propellers up in and use Silly Putty for the hub.
David Walker
For best results I'd probably attach the wings and then paint. You can always mask over the underside areas with masking tape and paper to keep the camo. paint off these areas. And if you leave the props off until the end you shouldn't have any problems with over-spray there either.
boscosticks
ohhh alright. yeah i saw some who left their props off while they airbrushed but i'll just wrap my propellers off. thanks for all the help guys !! -bosco
The Loggie
Boscosticks, re the propellors - you've another option that nobody has discussed. Use brass tubing - the stuff where one sleeves neatly into th other. Shaft the prop (hub, spinner & blades) onto the smaller and bury the larger in the nacells (yes, internal support WILL be necessary). Spray the prop assy's separately from the rest of the AC then insert the props at your leisure. They'll spin really nicely & remove for transport. I'd also go with attaching the wings, filling the seams, then spraying the airframe. George, out...........
