Andrew D. the Jolly Rogers guy
Jeez, that's a whole 'nother can of worms....
Jared Bishop
Right now I have no plans to do helmet decals. You'll have to paint them on.
adamitri
maybe we can get decals in 1/350 scale..... a TOP GUN ENTERPRISE.... what a dream
Andrew D. the Jolly Rogers guy
How about doing the cargo plane hauling rubber dogs*** out of Hong Kong? Might be a good one for silly week....
Jared Bishop
Acually the 1/350 is interesting. I have an Enterprise and all the decal sheets that have been put out for the kit. Thank you Dad. So I might but, I have to get the carrier done first.
Daniel_B
CVW-11 was aboard the Enterprise during filming of the shipboard scenes, with VF-114 and VF-213. Two Tomcats were done up with markings for the movie, one from each squadron. Maverick's/Goose's was (probably) Aardvark 112, and Iceman's/Slider's was (definitely) Lion 213. Daniel_B
Sorry all I'm way bussy I'll have something to show this weeked. That's cool, Jared--whenever you have time for them. It's not like there's a deadline or anything, and getting them right is more important than getting them fast. Daniel
Andrew D. the Jolly Rogers guy
Yeah, no worries. Some folks have been waiting YEARS for this. A bit longer is no problem, especially since the light at the tunnel is now in sight!! Edited August 30, 2006 by Andrew D. the Jolly Rogers guy
Hans
Speaking of the squadrons on the Big E during the filming... Does the tamiya kit include the decals for these squadrons? I'm saving my allowance for this kit (which is about to be done  )
Hans
BTW, I must ask this... What tamiya gray paints are the closest to the shades on the Top Gun Cats? I've now started building academy's kit for this... :D
adamitri
just FYI: fine scale modeler states that in their november issue, they will be building a "Top Gun" F-

Darren Roberts
If only we knew who wrote that article ??? Hmmmm ... ;) Gregg Probably some poor schmuck who thinks he knows everything about Tomcats. Sheesh, what a loser! I will say that it won't be comprehensive about the markings. The main thrust of the article is how to man-handle the Revell/Monogram kit and beat it into submission. I also show some of the weathering techniques I do. The reason for the Topgun markings is because it's the 20th anniversary of the movie and they liked that idea. So, don't look too much into the markings. You will probably notice that I have it marked as Mav's bird, but the modex is 104. During the flying scenes, they actually show Mav in 104. Just one of the many discrepancies in the movie...but who cares! It's still fun to watch!
David Walker
Can't wait to see your article Darren. I don't usually buy FSM but this time I believe I'll make an exception.
Andrew D. the Jolly Rogers guy
Yeah, I think I may have to splurge for that one, too!

David Walker
That probably wouldn't be the best way to go. This question has come up as seperate threads two or three times in the last month and the answer is usually find a different manufacturer that actually makes those colors.
