Supertom
Hey everyone, Can anyone tell me if F-15Bs and/or Ds are armed with live ordnance, or are they primarily for training only?
Ken Middleton
I am pretty sure they can be fully functional combat aircraft when needed. How often that is the case I don't know. I know some F-15Ds from the 1st TFW were sent over to Saudi Arabia in 1991 - Gulf War 1 Edited August 23, 2006 by Ken Middleton
Waco
Fully combat capable. They lack the ALQ-135 internal jamming system, but are otherwise the same as -A/-C models. They are seldom employed in that manner, but it has been done in the past.

Would a fully armed 4 AIM-9/4 AIM-7 loadout with drop tanks be feasible?
Murph
Thanks Ken, Waco! Would a fully armed 4 AIM-9/4 AIM-7 loadout with drop tanks be feasible? Yes, although the lack of an internal jammers means the centerline tank might be replaced with a jamming pod. Both USAF and Saudi tubs flew armed missions in Desert Shield/Storm. Rapier01
Dumb question, why is the ALQ-135 deleted from the B/D model jets?
Murph
Dumb question, why is the ALQ-135 deleted from the B/D model jets? Because Bay 5 was replaced by the rear cockpit. Regards, Murph
Rapier01
Makes sense. Thanks. You wouldn't happen to know if the E model has an ALQ-135 stashed away somewhere else in the airframe since it also must have that bay taken up by the rear cockpit? bucky60k
Also read something somewhere that the GIB in a B/D can not fire ordance. Is that true?
Rapier01
And that explanation of the limited functionality of the rear cockpit of the F-15B/D also perfectly explains why developing a two-seat combat capable F-22B would have been a total waste of tax-payer dollars. It's simpy not worth it.
f14peter
The IDF/AF has at least one stretch-cab with MiG kills, (Two kills I think).
