Nalar
Hi there! Just need some advice: Which kit is supposed to be the best german Mig-29 (a?) in 72nd scale. I heard about Italeri being worth a shot with just a few downsides but what about all the russian manufacturers, havent they got all the first hand information and the best newly tooled kits? I´d like to build one with the late grey air superiority scheme of JG 73 in Laage. Does anybody know if there are any decals or kits that come with these decals? Best regards and thanks for your help Till
Raymond
italeri definatly, though csnopy sucks next airfix, but that has more issues with spine and fuselauge then hasegawa...totally out, but captures the look and the rest :)
Andre
Indeed, Italeri is the best allround kit. HiDecal makes a nice 1/72nd MiG-29 sheet which includes JG73 markings. HTH, Andre
dreammh
I agree with the Italeri. But the details are terrible. Some lines do not line up properly, and due to their ridiculous size (the panel lines) its very easy to spot. Here is an Italeri fulcrum built OOB during my early days: Edited September 18, 2006 by dreammh
Yuri
Italeri is the only kit in 1/72 I'd use. Not perfect and it requires some work (gotta write an article on that someday), but it captures the look of the real thing like no other. About eastern kits it depends. Stay away from Zveza kit. while both Condor and KP/Kopro aren't bad, but they all have raised panel lines and lack in detail (also the smaller bits are a sometimes grossly oversize (mainly the Condor). The Airfix kit has instead more care for the smaller bits (pylons, undercarriage, antennas, nozzles) but the fuselage is so-so (too narrow spine, too big wings). tigercat
For decals get hold of the AIRDOC sheet.
Nalar
Thank you guys, so now I´d pickup Italeri and the Airdoc sheet. Any hints on correcting the most obvious errors on the Italeri kit?
Andrew D. the Jolly Rogers guy
I used the Airfix afterburner cans (had to make a little extension plug to make it fit) and weapons pylons on the Italeri kit. Esp since the Italeri doesn't have AA-11 Archer rails. I also completely rebuilt the cockpit tub and added a TD seat...need to get some pics of that at some point. To me that solved most of it. tigercat
The Airdoc book on the GAF MiG-29 is also a must buy item. Loads of piccies and info.
Raymond
hiya here are some simple ones: italeris 29 sits too high on its gear the windscreen is too small, though u can ger arodun this by not painting the bottom part of the canopy frame ;)
Andrew D. the Jolly Rogers guy
Actually, the windscreen doesn't look bad if you build it canopy-open. Mistakes are less noticable that way.
foxmulder_ms
Well, it is not an answer but I need to ask a probably repetitively asked question about early German Mig-29 and don’t want to open a new topic. I am building an academy mig-29a (1/48) with the decals that come from package so you got the color scheme. However, as you may know the instructions about the colors are not clear. Can anybody have suggestion about colors? Especially FS or modelmaster numbers will be great.
Eric2020
1/48 scale MiG-29 which version the A or UB model??
