Justin Davenport
Hello all....I'm fishing around for markings for my Airfix GB Mig-29. The kit offers a Polish AF bird and a Russian/Soviet bird "44" - but they're both in gray/green. Flex's CD has diagrams (and printable decals) for many more interesting schemes....I like the Ukrainian AF camouflage as well as the East German and Bangladeshi camouflage. Also one of the Hungarian schemes (a "bird" scheme) caught my eye, and I love the German flag Mig with a poker card on the tail. The Iranian AF and Indian AF birds (some of them) are also interesting, as is the Israeli AF aggressor bird. But I have reservations about the printable decals, and I'm wondering if any of the above schemes - or even more interesting schemes I may not know about yet - are on any aftermarket decal sheets. (I did see an East German scheme on a Hi-Decal sheet, and an Indian bird on a CE sheet, but I haven't seen the others yet). I'd like to do something other than a gray/green Fulcrum, that's all I know right now...and remember, it has to be single seat and 1/72nd scale. Maybe I could get generic numerals/roundels/squadron badges and paint the camouflage using the CD's information. Justin
Andrew D. the Jolly Rogers guy
Actually, recently they were showing some illustrations of African Fulcrum schemes...can't remember the specifics, but they're definitely beyond the norm!
Justin Davenport
I know the Eritreans were operating Mig-29's....anyone else in Africa? The CD showed the Eritreans using the gray/green scheme, were there any other schemes in use? At the Gathering model contest in Utah this weekend, a 1/32 Eritrean AF Flanker was displayed with a green splinter scheme that looked spectacular. (It was done by someone who died just a couple of months before the contest and was displayed in his honor). Wonder if the Eritreans did that for their Fulcrums as well.... Andrew D. the Jolly Rogers guy
Ooh, I do like the Russian one...temporary scheme, or deployed to an area with more sand/stone?
Justin Davenport
Thanks Raymond! I like the 2 Russian schemes a lot along with the Bangladeshi/Myanmar schemes. Is the GDR scheme similar to the one the Ukrainians are flying with now (mentioned on the Unveiled Secrets CD)? And the Iranian one grabs my attention as well, not just due to its blue/sand scheme but also due to current events....I could build the Iranian Mig and pose it next to an Israeli Barak or Ra'am and a USAF Mudhen..... Ruud
Hoi, Isn't there a 1/48 Sudanese MiG-29 being built in the in progress part of this forum? At least it was in the sand/brown/green desert camo IIRC. later Ruud

Justin Davenport
Thanks...I'm getting some ideas. But the Russian and Turkmen birds look like they have deeper spines than the other birds (and the Airfix Fulcrum-A I have), is it my imagination or would I have to get a conversion kit to make those two A/C? Justin
Andrew D. the Jolly Rogers guy
I dunno...if they're Fulcrum C's, then I suppose it depends on how much converting you'd like to do with plastic and/or putty!
Justin Davenport
Ahh...so the Fulcrum C has a deeper spine. Interesting. I'm afraid I'm not up to the conversion task right now, mine will need to be a Fulcrum-A. That Hi-Decal sheet that was linked here might be my best option as it has an Iranian bird, that and a Ra'am or Baz (F-15C? I'm a little hazy with my Hebrew designations) would make a great display together. I've got the Hi-Decal sheet ordered and on its way....it's very likely my Mig will be one of those birds. But the Russian and Turkmen birds look like they have deeper spines than the other birds (and the Airfix Fulcrum-A I have), is it my imagination or would I have to get a conversion kit to make those two A/C? Justin There's a MiG-29S (Fulcrum-C) resin conversion from Neomega in 1/48. In 1/72 you'll need milliput and elbow grease! Once they made also one in 1/72 but it's long out of production. Anyway, apart from the bigger spine, the Fulcrum-C has also slightly different wingtips and, depending on the aircraft, usually the "odd rods" IFF antennas on top and below the nose are replaced by a single blade antenna below the nose (this is true also for late-production or overhauled Fulcrum-As) Edited September 26, 2006 by Yuri
