  1. Hey Everyone! Having completed Eduard's stunning Messerschmitt, Me109G-6, I thought I would also complete their earlier kit of the '109E. This was a kit that was 2/3rds built when it first came out in 2012, but a mixture of apathy, time and the loss of a bunch of parts, forced it up into the room of doom - or loft, as I also call it - and so having survived being smashed (which is almost always the fate of unfinished work), I dragged it out and completed it! It's not perfect, but I think it makes a cool counterpoint to the later kit and at least now means that I finally(!) have an earlier var
  2. Hey everyone! Here's my build of Eduard's Messerschmitt Me109G-6, here seen in the somewhat speculative colours of Kurt Gabler's 'Mosquito Chaser', Red 8. This is Eduard's interpretation of Red 8. I say interpretation, because the scheme has been speculated over for years, the consensus being that it was a standard G-6 that had had it's paint sanded off to reveal the underlying metal (with all of the scruffiness that that would have created!). There is talk of paint remaining - particularly on the wings - and also that it may have been finished in primer - both of which seem feasible to me!
  3. Hi everyone. A few months ago I completed an Airfix Shackleton for work and as part of that build, I riveted the airframe. Having been asked about that part of the model's construction, I've created a short video on the steps, so that you can see how easy it is and the tools that you will need. To some, it will be nothing new, but if you are a beginner, or intermediate modeller looking to improve their skills a little, this may be a fun step during the construction of an aircraft model. Here are the links to both the video and the Blog, the latter providing additional images that will help yo
  4. Here’s my new AFV Club F-5E Tiger II. This is one of those models that prove even professional modelmakers can have a nightmare with a project! Though I really like this kit, completing it was a frustrating experience that almost had me toss the damned thing in the bin! Everything that I could ***** up I did (paint, decals, spilt solutions, broken parts, lost pieces…) and the more frustrated I got, the more upset I became and the more the mistakes kept on coming!!! Seriously, if I hadn’t scheduled this into MIS, it would have ended up under my foot… Anyhoo, itâ€
  5. Hi guys! Here's the OA-4M Skyhawk done and dusted. As mentioned in my earlier post, this a cross-kit project combining the Hasegawa 1/48 TA-4J and A-4M to create this great looking Fast FAC. In order to add some colour I couldn't resist adding a TDU-10 Target pod under the port wing (as seen in Wings of fame Vol.4), and although I am not sure that the 'Outlaws' aircraft ever carried one of these, it still looks amazing in place! There are some mistakes on this one, the seats for instance needing to have been black rather than grey - still, it's too late now, though at some point I may replace
  6. Hey everyone! Well' here it is, my version of the ESCI S-3 Viking in 1/48. As you can see, with a little TLC this very old kit can be made to look into a pleasing replica of a very graceful aircraft. The aircraft is finished as a CAG aircraft from VS-35 'Blue Wolves' and as such I've used a couple of bits of artistic licence, the first being to paint the wingtip ECM pods in black (they were finished in blue on an earlier incarnation of this aircraft and so I thought that it wasn't really a step too far...) and then the fixing of the refuelling probe in the extended position - which is very ra
  7. Hey everyone! Here's my latest model, Hasegawa's beautiful 1/48 Pete. Other than painting 90% of the markings and using Hasegawa's set of add-on etched parts, this one has been built from the box. There are a couple of additional wires to add, but other than that it's pretty much done; I could perhaps add a little more weathering, but I rather like the clean look of the model at the moment and so I think I'll leave it as it is. I have to say that it ranks amongst the most enjoyable kits that I have ever built and I really like the completed model - I hope that you do too... Now, where's that
  8. Hey everyone! Thanks very much for the very kind words on my Mosquito - they're very much appreciated! You're right about the muzzles - I had switched them around, but they are now in the right places. This really was a case of not being able to see the wood for the trees! The pictures now on line, show them as they should be... All the best, Spence
  9. Hi everyone! My friend and colleague Haris Ali has asked me to post some pictures of his very impressive 1/32 Junkers for you to enjoy - which I am more than happy to do! I'll hand you over to Haris who'll talk you through his latest model..! Spence "Here are some images of my Junkers J.1 that will be appearing in the August issue of Military In Scale. Boy, this is some kit! Much has been said about Wingnut Wings kits and all of it appears to be true. No hype here, the kits speak for themselves. Admittedly I've only got the experience of this kit to go by but judging by what I've seen of t
  10. Hi Everyone - I hope that you're all well today! :) It's been a while, but I thought that you might like to see my latest model, Hasegawa's 1/72 F-111G. This is the first jet that I've built in some time and the first in 1/72 for over four years. As you can see, I've taken a fairly simple approach to it adding some small details to help improve it slightly, with most of my effort going on that Gunship Grey finish (who the hell ever said that single colour schemes were easy, should have been with me over the last few days!!! ) and as such I'm using it as a relaxing project before I move on t
  11. Hi everyone - I hope that you're all well today! Taking a break from building jets, here's my version of Dragon's very impressive 1/32 Me110 C-7 that I've built ready for a feature that I'll write on it for inclusion in Military In Scale magazine. I have to say that this was a really enjoyable project and though I got bogged down with the paintwork, I certainly had fun along the way and I really like the finished model. I certainly hope that you like it too! Now, where did I put that '88..?! Laters! Spence
  12. Hey - thanks for that! It's been A very long day today (compounded by a hefty rehearsal this evening with my band...) and I'm feeling quite frazzled at the moment. I'm glad that we cleared that up and I wish you all the best for the rest of the day. Spence BTW - I'll remove the headbanging - that was a little rude. Sorry...
  13. Hi Mark - I posted this up on this forum, Hyperscale and Britmodeller. As the Editor of Military In Scale Magazine, I was sent a press release from the UK importer Amerang listing the February and March releases from Hasegawa in 1/72, 1/48 and 1/32. The TA-4J was part of the March listings from this press release. Are you happy with the source now..?! Spence
  14. Hey guys! It really is a momentous day eh..?! Here's the box art for Hasegawa's new 1/48 TA-4J - a kit that will be released later this year (when I'm not sure, but I imagine that it will be sooner rather than later as I had the details within a March Releases press release...). 1/48 TA-4J SKYHAWK - Modern U.S. Jet Trainer Base kit : PT21(07221) - Not in 2009 catalog + new nose, intake, canopy, cockpit and rear seat parts Markings 1) U.S. Navy VC-1, U.S. Navy VT-7 Just thought you might be interested... Spence - Bringer Of Good News Laters!
  15. Good evening everyone - thanks very much for the very kind words on my llittle Hawk. This was one of those highly enjoyable OOTB projects that not only allowed me to produce an article for Military In Scale (being the Editor, I have to build a model once in a while you know!) but also, get me out of a slump that has lasted over three months. Thanks Italeri - you managed to renew my enthusiasm! Now, I'll be moving on to the massive Airfix TSR.2 within the next few days - which as we all know, is a whole different ball game..! All the best, Spence :D
